Winter 2024 visit to Keila

At Marduk's initiative, we set off by train into the wilds of Estonia – that is, we headed just beyond the range of Tallinn's free public transport. This was Keila, where we walked past some buildings that time forgot, through drifted snow, and mainly toward beacons of beer and food.

As nearly always, the images link to larger versions.

Our first stop, after a fair walk, was Legends, a burger place decked out in the style of a US diner, and then some. We hopped into the car/booth for two surprisingly new-to-us beers and nibbling from Marduk's chicken wings with cheesy dip.

Keila's central park, a former cemetery, provided the cross shown (see the description for details). The nearby buildings, some nearly creepy snow-highlighted trees, and the day bag added to this evening stroll.

Scottish House was the next venue on our list. As we expected from the Vana Villem group of restaurants/pubs, we were greeted with a classy wood-based environment, Õllenaut house beers, and good food (duck-breast slices with onion jam, with a squeeze of lime). A civilised place to relax.

The final stop before we dashed for our train was the SNCO tap, helpfully near the railway station. The photos put the proprietor's military connections on display alongside other furnishing choices: yes, those are repurposed helmets, weapons, etc.

Though we'd had new experiences and new beers at all of these places, the time had come to head back into town... via tried-and-tested beers at two venues in Telliskivi. The only sourness or Yuckiness factor here came with a cranky card-payment terminal.

Now you can go home...
