[INTRODUCTION]

JACK HARKNESS: (v.o.) Torchwood. Outside the government, beyond the police.
Tracking down alien life on earth, arming the human race against the future. The 21st
century is when everything changes and you've got to be ready.

FADE IN:

EXT. COUNTRYSIDE – LATE EVENING

(A lone car travels along a road, rock music blaring on the radio. A cell phone rings.)

INT. CAR (MOVING) – EVENING

(Ellie Johnson is on the phone.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: (to phone) Dad? I dunno, hour and half, tops. I'll be there soon as
I can.

(She tucks the phone between her ear and shoulder and drives with two hands.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: (to phone) I can't hear you. The signal's going.

(She continues driving down the road. She turns her phone off and tosses it onto the
passenger seat next to her. She continues driving.)

(She slows the car down when she sees something in the middle of the road. It looks like a
person. She stops and gets out of the car. She reaches for her baseball bat and approaches
the person ... her car door open.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: Hello?

(There's no answer.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: Are you all right?

(She reaches the person and nudges them with the bat. There's no movement. She nudges
them again with the tip of her bat.)

(CAR POV: As Ellie leans over the body, we see the FLASH OF SOMEONE, running across the
road behind her.)

(The 'head' of the person on the road rolls back and she sees its nothing but a
soccer ball under a hooded jacket. Ellie turns around and swings the bat up. She heads
back to her car.)

(We hear the hiss of air leaking out of her car tire.)

(Spooked, Ellie quickly gets into her car, puts the bat down and reaches for her car keys,
which she left in the ignition.)

(Her keys are gone.)

(She stops and looks for her keys, pausing to lock her door first.)

(Scared, she tries her cell phone – but it's out of range.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: Come on!

(Then, she hears clattering coming from above her. Ellie looks up. Something is up on her
car roof.)

(Now, she hears metal scraping.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: Help!

(We hear the chirp from her car keys as her car doors unlock. Ellie gasps.)

ELLIE JOHNSON: Leave me alone!

(Her car door opens. A figure in black grabs her and she screams. It appears to climb into
the car with her and she turns to the passenger seat trying to get away.)

(Ellie screams.)

(We PULL AWAY FROM the back of the car – car lights on, Ellie's screams echoing
in the night air. Not a single soul in sight.)

FADE IN:

EXT. COUNTRYSIDE (STOCK) -- DAY

(The Torchwood vehicle travels down the lone road.)

OWEN: (v.o.) I hate the countryside.

INT. TORCHWOOD SUV (TRAVELING) – DAY

(Jack is driving. Owen rants and the rest of the team is squished in the back seat.)

OWEN: It's dirty, it's unhygienic. And what is that smell?

GWEN: That would be grass.

(He looks back at Gwen.)

OWEN: It's disgusting.

EXT. ROAD – DAY

(The Torchwood vehicle continues on down the road.)

EXT. LAST STOP – DAY

(The Torchwood SUV is parked on the side of the road near a LAST STOP burger trailer and
yellow van. Jack, Gwen and Toshiko stand around an open map on the hood of their car while
Owen and Ianto are nearby.)

JACK: Seventeen disappearances within the last five months. Police are clueless.

OWEN: Now there's a surprise. No offence, PC Cooper.

JACK: The last known whereabouts of each one is somewhere around here.

TOSHIKO: All within a twenty-mile radius.

GWEN: Anything else linking them?

JACK: None of the bodies have ever been found. These people just fell off the
radar. No patterns in age, sex, race. One minute they're here, the next ... boof. Gone.

GWEN: The rift doesn't spread out this far. Does it?

JACK: We don't know that much about it to be certain. And it's increasing in
activity all the time.

(In the background, Ianto is at the burger stand getting something to eat.)

OWEN: Come on, aliens aren't gonna bother hanging around out here. Probably some
sort of weird suicide club with people choosing the same spot to end it all. God knows, if
I had to spend too long up here, I'd want to top myself.

(Ianto passes Owen a burger.)

IANTO: Here you go. Careful, they're hot. Sure you don't want anything, Tosh?

(He hands one to Gwen and Jack.)

TOSHIKO: Really sure.

(They both unwrap their burgers and are about to take a bite when --

TOSHIKO: A friend of mine caught hepatitis off a burger from one of these places.

(Jack puts his burger back down on the car hood.)

JACK: We'll start with the most recent victim, Ellie Johnson. We last have record
of her making a phone call. She dropped out of signal mid-call. The coverage map has her
placed ... somewhere about here.

(He points to the map. Gwen nods, her mouth full of burger.)

JACK: Looks as good a place as any to set up camp.

(At the word 'camp,' Owen stops mid-bite.)

OWEN: Sorry, did you say ‘camp?'

(Jack looks at him and smiles.)

CUT TO:

EXT. 'CAMP' – DAY

(Jack and Owen grab the tent gear out of the Torchwood SUV. Owen is grumbling all the way
to the site.)

OWEN: What's the matter with a hotel?

JACK: People are going missing round here. D'you really wanna stay in a place run
by strangers?

(The other two tents are already up and secured.)

OWEN: Cos sleeping outside is a lot safer.

JACK: No other race in the universe goes camping. Celebrate your own uniqueness.

(They drop the gear on the grass. Owen looks at the tent gear.)

OWEN: What am I supposed to do with this?

TOSHIKO: Need a hand getting it up, Owen?

OWEN: If I did, I wouldn't ask you.

(Toshiko's eagerness fades and her face falls, disappointed. She turns and walks
away. Owen kicks the tent gear.)

(Gwen watches Toshiko leave.)

WATCHER POV: From up on the hill and behind some bushes, someone watches Owen struggle
with the tent gear.

OWEN: Some pieces are missing!

IANTO: No. I checked.

(Ianto heads for the tents and leaves the SUV. We hold on the SUV.)

EXT. COUNTRYSIDE (STOCK) – DAY

(Clouds roll quickly by.)

EXT. 'CAMP' – DAY

(Gwen and Toshiko go through the camp gear on one of the table set up in the center of the
tents.)

GWEN: Oh, come on! It's just a bit of fun! Who was the last person you snogged?

(Owen drops his tent-in-progress and turns to pick on Gwen.)

OWEN: See! You even sound like an eight-year-old!

(Jack sits in the front set of the SUV.)

OWEN: Who the hell says 'snog'?

GWEN: Mine was ... Rhys!

OWEN: Yeah, well, there's a surprise.

GWEN: Tosh, your go.

TOSHIKO: It's easy for you!

GWEN: Oh, come on! Spill the beans!

TOSHIKO: Owen.

OWEN: What?

GWEN: Really?

OWEN: Tosh, in your dreams.

TOSHIKO: 3 am, Christmas Eve, in front of the Millennium Centre. Waiting for a cab.
I had mistletoe.

OWEN: Christmas?! You've not had a snog since.

TOSHIKO: No.

OWEN: Well. Lucky me, eh?

(Gwen, Toshiko, Ianto and Owen sit at the table.)

TOSHIKO: (to Owen) So who was yours?

(Gwen smiles absently at the game. Then, Owen looks at her. Her smile falls and eyes widen
with alarm.)

OWEN: Gwen, actually.

(Jack looks up surprised. Toshiko turns and looks at Gwen.)

TOSHIKO: When was this?

(Owen raises his eye brows at Gwen.)

GWEN: It was complicated.

TOSHIKO: (mutters) Didn't take you long to get your feet under the table.

GWEN: What?

TOSHIKO: (to Owen) So was it just a kiss, or ...

(Jack puts his clipboard down on the SUV seat and heads over to join the group.)

GWEN: Tosh, leave it.

OWEN: Jack?

JACK: Are we including non-human lifeforms?

GWEN: Oh, you haven't!

OWEN: You're a sick man, Harkness! That is disgusting!

GWEN: I never know when he's joking.

(Jack smiles at them and doesn't answer the question.)

IANTO: It's my turn, is it? It was Lisa.

(Jack's smile falls. A somber mood settles on the group.)

GWEN: Ianto, I'm sorry ...

IANTO: Sorry she's dead? Or sorry you mentioned it?

GWEN: I just didn't think.

IANTO: You forgot.

(Gwen looks at Owen. An awkward silence settles on the entire group, the game has long
lost its appeal.)

OWEN: We should get some firewood.

GWEN: I'll give you a hand.

(Owen and Gwen leave. Ianto turns and finds Jack looking back at him. Ianto looks away.)

EXT. WOODS -- CONTINUOUS

(Owen and Gwen are walking out in the woods.)

GWEN: Couldn't you have kept that to yourself?

OWEN: What's the matter, you embarrassed?

GWEN: You're such an arrogant shit sometimes, Owen!

OWEN: See? To my mind that was a good kiss. It was borderline great. So good in
fact, you've been avoiding me ever since.

GWEN: Ha! Country air's making you delusional.

OWEN: How long did it last? Ten seconds? But the things I can tell from that kiss.

GWEN: Oh, like?

OWEN: Like your sex life ain't up to much.

(Angry, Gwen grabs Owen and pushes him up against the tree.)

GWEN: You what?!

OWEN: You see, old Rhys makes the earth rumble, but he don't make it move, does he?

GWEN: You might want to shut up before I lamp you one.

(Owen turns Gwen and pushes her up back against the tree.)

OWEN: When was the last time you screwed all night?

(Gwen grabs the back of Owen's head, her fingers tangled in his hair.)

OWEN: When was the last time you came so hard, and so long, you forgot where you
are? Doesn't happen with him, does it? You're too familiar. Whereas, you and me, we're not
cozy at all. We'd be amazing! And that scares the shit out of you.

(Out of the corner of her eye, Gwen sees someone in the distance move.)

GWEN: Someone's watching us. Through the trees.

(They hold their positions.)

GWEN: Fifty yards north. I just saw them move.

OWEN: You got your gun?

GWEN: Yes.

OWEN: You go to your left. I'll go right. Three ... two ... one.

(Owen pulls away from her, brings out his gun and heads right. Gwen pulls out her gun and
goes left.)

(Gwen runs out. She stops and looks about. She hears a rustle and turns around. She looks
around.)

(She hears another sound behind her and turns around, her gun raised. A bird flies off,
its wings fluttering.)

(The everyday noises of the woods has Gwen turning this way and that, moving her gun at
any noise. Owen steps out and they're both pointing their guns at the other.)

OWEN: Bollocks! How did we lose them?

(They point their guns up.)

GWEN: Owen.

(She sees something and points her gun at it. Owen turns around and points his gun at it
as well.)

(On the ground, they see something under a dirty piece of heavy cloth. Owen and Gwen
approach the cloth. Gwen covers Owen as he picks up a stick and pushes the cloth away.)

(On the ground is a skinless, meatless skeletal corpse. They're both shocked and take
a step back at the horrific sight.)

GWEN: Oh! Oh!

(Owen catches his breath and looks away.)

SHORT TIME CUT TO:

EXT. WOODS – DAY -- CONTINUOUS

(Owen, Toshiko and Jack examine the corpse. Gwen leans up against the far tree.)

OWEN: Well, it's not Ellie Johnson, that's for sure.

(The corpse is covered with larvae. Ianto is busy putting up crime scene tape around the
area.)

OWEN: This is a male, late 40s, 50s. Wasn't killed here. No blood spatter or signs
of a struggle. Must have been brought here after he died.

GWEN: Why do that? It's not like they've tried to bury him here.

TOSHIKO: Maybe you disturbed them and they ran away.

IANTO: Maybe it's a warning. Whoever's responsible marking out their territory.

(Jack kneels down.)

JACK: Cause of death?

OWEN: Impossible to say. The body's been stripped of the flesh and bodily organs.
So, all that's left is a carcass.

TOSHIKO: Could the Weevils have come out this far?

JACK: No, Weevils don't finish off their victims like this.

(Off screen, they hear a car engine start.)

TOSHIKO: Is that ours?

JACK: Yeah.

(Jack gets up and they run back to the campsite.)

EXT. CAMPSITE – CONTINUOUS

(The Torchwood SUV, license #CF05 FDU, is moving, headlights turned on ... turning
around. It crashes into an already set-up tent, demolishing their camp. The SUV backs up,
then continues through the camp and toward the road.)

(Jack, Toshiko, Gwen and Ianto are running back to the campsite.)

(Ianto has his gun out. The SUV heads out of camp.)

JACK: Aaaarrrggghhh!

(Jack and Gwen watch as the SUV leaves everyone in the dust.)

SHORT TIME CUT TO:

EXT. CAMPSITE – DAY – CONTINUOUS

(Ianto is busy on his hand-held device. Owen picks up some wooden pegs off the ground
while Toshiko seethes at her stuff scattered around.)

OWEN: (shouts) All right! I've said I'm sorry!

(Gwen pulls out the map. Jack paces in the area behind her as he thinks. Owen and Toshiko
continue arguing.)

TOSHIKO: Basic security protocols, Owen!

OWEN: Oh, get off your high horse, Tosh! I was carrying that stupid gear.

TOSHIKO: What, the whole time?

OWEN: And then I was trying to put that bloody tent up. And then ... well, yeah, I
sort of forgot that I'd left them in there. But I'm sorry. I'm human. I ballsed up.

JACK: Looks like that body wasn't a warning. More of a decoy.

GWEN: That would mean we've been watched since we've arrived.

JACK: Tosh, can you get a tracking signal?

IANTO: Already done. I took the liberty.

(He waves his PDA. Everyone heads over to him.)

IANTO: It's currently 3.4 miles west from here.

OWEN: Gunning at ninety, no doubt. You steal a piece of equipment like that, you
drive straight on till morning.

IANTO: Actually, no. It's been stationary for the past four minutes. I'd go so far
as to say it was parked.

(Gwen checks the map.)

GWEN: There's a small village in that area. Other than that, nothing for thirty
miles.

TOSHIKO: Call me suspicious, but this has all the hallmarks of a trap.

JACK: Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. (beat) Anyone fancy a walk?

(Jack heads out. Gwen turns and looks at Owen. Ianto and Toshiko look at each other. They
all follow Jack.)

EXT. COUNTRYSIDE – HILLTOP – LATE DAY

(FAR VIEW OF: A bird screeches in the distance. Everyone is at the top of the hill. They
make their way down.)

EXT. BUILDING (FAR) – DAY

(They come upon a building out in the distance in front of them.)

OWEN: Why would anyone want to live out here?

JACK: Has the SUV moved?

(Ianto checks his PDA and his watch.)

IANTO: Not for an hour now.

(They start toward the building.)

EXT. BUILDING (CLOSER) -- DAY

(They head toward the building and stop just along the edge of the driveway.)

EXT. BUILDING – FRONT DRIVE -- DAY

(They head for the longhouse building. The gray graveled drive has a gray tractor parked
in front. There's a sign up on the building.)

INT. BUILDING – SECOND FLOOR – DAY

(Heavy breathing sounds. Through the second floor window, someone watches the team
approach the building.)

EXT. BUILDING – FRONT DRIVE -- DAY

(Jack suddenly turns around.)

JACK: Tosh, Ianto – follow the signal, find the SUV. Owen, Gwen ...

(Jack turns and looks at the building.)

JACK: Let's see if there's any room at the inn.

(The team splits up. Jack heads for the building.)

INT. BUILDING – SECOND FLOOR – DAY

(The person watches Owen and Gwen follow Jack.)

INT. BUILDING – MAIN DINING ROOM -- DAY

(Jack opens the door to a dining room. The place is empty. Jack motions for them to look
around. Gwen goes behind the bar. Owen steps up to the bar.)

OWEN: (quietly teases) Pint of best please, love. And em, yeah, get one for
yourself.

(She levels a look at him. Jack smiles. After a beat, Owen turns and looks around the rest
of the room.)

(Gwen opens the cash register. The chu-ching of the bells is very loud in the empty room.
She looks at the bills in the till, then puts it down.)

GWEN: Where is everybody?

(Jack motions for her to follow him as he heads for the back.)

INT. BUILDING – BACK ROOM – CONTINUOUS

(Jack has his gun out as he enters the back room.)

INT. BUILDING – MAIN DINING ROOM -- CONTINUOUS

(Owen continues to look around as he makes his way to the back. He opens a door to another
back room.)

INT. BUILDING – BACK ROOM 2 – CONTINUOUS

(Jack motions for Gwen to continue through the hallway. He steps into the room closest to
him to check it out.)

INT. BUILDING – KITCHEN – CONTINUOUS

(Gwen steps into the kitchen. The place is a mess, the curtains pulled closed and dirty
post and dishes in the sink and on the counters.)

(She turns and looks up at the bug light hanging from the ceiling.)

(She looks down on the floor and finds another skinless, meatless corpse about a foot away
from where she's standing. Her stomach gives way. She grabs the counter top and
throws up on the floor.)

(Jack enters the kitchen to check on her.)

JACK: You okay?

GWEN: In there.

(She motions to the body. Jack steps forward, gun out in front of him to check and sees
the body.)

(Owen enters the kitchen and passes Gwen.)

OWEN: That burger coming back to haunt you?

(He stops when he sees the corpse.)

OWEN: Oh, my God ...

(Off screen and far away, a door slams shut. Jack takes off running. He looks over his
shoulder on his way out --

JACK: Gwen!

-- and he's out the door. Gwen looks up and runs after him.)

INT. BUILDING – FRONT HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

(Jack runs down the stairs leading to the front door. Gwen is right behind him.)

EXT. BUILDING – FRONT DRIVE -- CONTINUOUS

(Jack pushes the building door open, keeping it open as he looks around. Gwen runs past
him and out onto the graveled drive.)

BEHIND THE TREES POV

(Jack and Gwen look for someone, their guns pointed out in front of them. Gwen suddenly
doubles over ... retches and coughs ... then quickly gets up again to cover
Jack's back.)

(Gwen is spooked. Jack slowly puts his gun down.)

GWEN: Jack please ... something's going on here.

(Gwen coughs. Jack sees something off to the side.)

JACK: Let's take a look in here. Come on.

(He heads to another building door and stops on one side of it as he waits for Gwen to
catch up.)

(Gwen puts a hand on the doorknob and waits.

JACK: One, two, three ...

(She opens the door.)

INT. APARTMENT 2

(Gwen opens the inner door, her gun raised as she steps inside. She sweeps the room and
steps into the room. Jack appears in the doorway behind her – same stance, same alert
position.)

(Gwen steps into something. She looks down and freaks. She's stepped in a pool of
blood.)

(She continues forward and stops.)

(Jack is behind her and covers her front while glancing behind him.)

JACK: What is it?

(Gwen backs away.)

GWEN: There's another body in there.

JACK: Same as the other?

(Jack glances behind him.)

GWEN: What did this, Jack? Cos whatever it is, it can't be human. How far is this
going to spread?

(Gwen is losing it.)

JACK: Stay focused.

(Jack takes up position beside the open door. Gwen doesn't move, her eyes on the
body. She is freaking.)

GWEN: I should be at home having dinner with Rhys. What am I doing here with you?!
Don't you ever get scared, Jack? Huh?

(She turns and looks at him. Jack motions.)

JACK: There's another two houses. We'd better take a look.

(Jack leaves the room. We linger on Gwen who is clearly disturbed by what she's seen
so far.)

INT. BUILDING – KITCHEN – CONTINUOUS

(Owen is taking samples from the body found in the kitchen. He stands up.)

OWEN: (to the body) Whatever they were, I hope you put up a good fight.

CUT TO:

EXT. BUILDING 2 -- DAY

(Ianto and Toshiko are walking up the grassy slope to a nearby building. He checks his PDA
and points in front of him.)

IANTO: It's just half a mile up here.

(Toshiko takes the unit from Ianto.)

TOSHIKO: Least we've still got this. (grumbles) Rest of my stuff was in the
vehicle.

(Ianto smiles, amused.)

(They make their way to the front of the building.)

STONE WALL POV

(Someone watches Ianto and Toshiko.)

(Ianto looks up at the building. Toshiko kicks over some rubbish piled up on the side. She
looks at it as Ianto reaches the front door. He tries the door and finds it locked.)

(Someone screams.)

(Ianto and Toshiko look in the direction where it came.)

TOSHIKO: What was that?

IANTO: Just a ... fox or something.

(Ianto steps away from the front door.)

IANTO: Check round the back.

TOSHIKO: Yeah.

(Toshiko makes her around the other side of the building. She comes upon a small alleyway
between the building and another stone wall. She starts along the side of the building
wall when --

-- Someone screams again.)

(Toshiko takes her gun out and continues to the end of the building wall.)

(Hanging against the wall is an animal or bird carcass.)

(Toshiko turns the corner and finds more bird and rabbit carcasses hanging from the nearby
trees. There's another carcass pinned to the wall next to the back door.)

(She stops and tries the back door. It's locked. She kicks at it twice with her
foot.)

(Ianto turns the far corner and Toshiko quickly raises her gun at him.)

(Ianto stops and raises his hands away from his body. Near him is another carcass hanging
on the wall.)

(Toshiko smiles and lowers her weapon. She breathes again. Ianto heads toward her.)

(In the distance, they hear another cry. )

(Ianto walks up the hill along the grass. We stay with him as he looks out in the
distance. He points in front of him.)

IANTO: We should carry on straight up there.

(There's no answers. He turns and looks for Toshiko and finds that she's GONE.
Ianto turns around. She's nowhere to be seen.)

FAR VIEW OF: Ianto is on the grass in the back of the house. There's no sign of
Toshiko.

IANTO: Tosh!

(Ianto takes his gun out and cocks it. He looks around for her.)

IANTO: (shouts) Tosh!

(There's no answer.)

IANTO: (shouts) Tosh!

(He heads back to the spot where Toshiko was last seen and works his way back between the
house and the outhouse. He edge his way forward.)

SWOOSH!

(A blurry gray figure moves quickly across the screen. Ianto turns around and edges his
way back between the house and the outhouse. He glances behind him, then continues
forward.)

(Behind him, we see a hooded figure moving quietly up to him. Ianto makes his way back to
the edge of the wall. He steps out between the two buildings. The gray, hooded figure
pushes him. Ianto falls forward to the ground and drops his gun.)

(He turns around.)

ABRUPT CUT TO:

(The two dead birds hanging from a rope in the tree.)

EXT. BUILDING -- APARTMENT 2 – DAY

(Jack kicks the door open and exits the building. Gwen follows him out. Jack quickly moves
around the side of the building, to the next door.)

CLANK!

(Gwen swings around and looks through the small alley between the two buildings. She heads
toward Jack who is waiting next to the third unopened building door.)

(Gwen tries the door.)

JACK: Locked?

GWEN: Locked.

(He nods. Gwen pulls and tugs on the door. She gets enough of an opening to see inbetween
the crack. The door is held by the lock chain.)

(Gwen pulls and the door gives way. It opens. Gwen steps in, stops and ...

BANG!

-- Gwen falls back, shot in her side. Jack steps forward. Before he enters the building,
he checks on Gwen.)

JACK: Gwen! Gwen! Gwen!
JACK: Gwen.

(Gwen rolls over. She clutches the wound in her side.)

INT. BUILDING -- APARTMENT 3 -- CONTINUOUS

(Jack turns and pulls the door open and finds a kid with a rifle standing above him.)

JACK: (shouts) Put the gun down on the floor!

(Gwen is outside, clutching the wound in her side. The door behind Jack swings closed.)

JACK: (firmly) Put the gun down on the floor!

(Scared, the kid puts the gun down on the floor.)

KIERAN: I thought you were them! I thought they'd come back for me!

JACK: Thought who had come back for you?

(The kid cries.)

JACK: (shouts) WHO?!

(The kid doesn't answer.)

EXT. BUILDING -- APARTMENT 3 – DAY

(TOP VIEW DOWN: Gwen is on the concrete, her eyes open. She closes and opens her eyes.)

OWEN: (echoy) Gwen ... Gwen!

RESUME MOTION

(Owen runs to Gwen with his kit. He gets to work as Jack exits the building.)

OWEN: Gwen, what's happened?

JACK: A kid hit her with a shotgun.

(Owen starts to pick her up, but Jack carries her.)

JACK: I got you. I got you, I got you.

(Owen grabs his kit and heads into the building.)

OWEN: Move, move! Get in.

INT. APARTMENT 3 – KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS

JACK: Move!

(Owen steps into the building and holds the door open as Jack carries Gwen inside. Owen
squeezes past them to clear off the kitchen table, knocking everything to the floor. Gwen
grunts from the pain.)

(Jack puts Gwen down on the table.)

JACK: Okay, I'll check upstairs.

(Jack runs past the kid and heads upstairs. The kid stands aside watching them. Owen gets
to work.)

OWEN: Okay, head!

(He puts a blanket under Gwen's head.)

GWEN: Owen! Owen! Owen!

(Gwen reaches for Owen, but he's too busy turning on the light, adjusting it to shine
on her wound.)

OWEN: Bet you thought you'd never be glad to see me! Right.

GWEN: (cries out) Help me!

(Owen grabs Gwen's flailing arms and holds them down as he looks at her.)

OWEN: Listen, listen, I'm going to have a look at your wound now, okay? Just keep
calm. Hands off, hands off. Okay.

GWEN: No, don't please! Don?t!

(He pulls her pants band down and lifts up her shirt to look at the wound.)

OWEN: Right, it could've been much worse.

(He applies a fresh bandage to the wound.)

OWEN: Hold this apply pressure.

(Gwen automatically applies pressure. Owen looks at the wound.)

GWEN: Oh, Jesus!

OWEN: The bullets are lodged near the surface. You've been bloody lucky, girl.
Another inch to the left and any one of your vital organs might've been ...

GWEN: (alamed) What?

(Owen shakes his head.)

OWEN: Oh. Anyway.

(Owen gets ready to inject Gwen.)

OWEN: All right. Do you want a quip about feeling a small prick?

GWEN: (laughs & groans) No, but thanks for offering.

OWEN: Here we go.

(He injects her.)

OWEN: All done.
GWEN: (grunts) GOD!

(Owen takes his tweezers as Gwen tries to see what he's doing.)

OWEN: Let's get these pellets out, eh?

(Owen removes the pellets from Gwen's side. Gwen puts her hand on Owen's
shoulder as he works.)

OWEN: Right, there's gonna be a certain amount of residue. So just lie back and
think of Torchwood.

GWEN: Do you miss being a doctor?

OWEN: Excuse me, I still am a doctor. I just don't deal with patients any more,
that's all. It's ideal. That was the bit I always hated. Ah.

(Owen takes out a pellet and shows it to her.)

OWEN: You beauty. Come on. I'm good.

GWEN: Not bad.

(They look at each other for a moment, then turn away ... Owen goes back to her side
while Gwen removes her hand from his shoulders and turns her head completely away from
him.)

(Jack returns with a rifle. He releases the chamber and puts it aside.)

JACK: What's taking Tosh and Ianto so long?

OWEN: Jack, give them a chance the SUV might be locked up.

KIERAN: Or they could be dead! Well, everyone else is.

JACK: Sit down!

(Kieran sits down.)

JACK: Tell us what happened here.

KIERAN: It's not human. Look, my mum won't know what's happened. They weren't
expecting me back for the weekend.

JACK: Look, we'll get you home okay.

KIERAN: What are you going to do? You can't fight them. They're too strong.

(Owen opens his kit.)

KIERAN: The only thing we can do is barricade the door.

(The kid gets up and runs to the door. Jack grabs him and sits him back down.)

JACK: No! (to Owen) We'll make base at the pub.

(Owen looks up from setting Gwen's bandage.)

OWEN: What about Tosh and Ianto? Should we go after them?

JACK: Not till we know what we're dealing with.

OWEN: But what if it's too late?

JACK: They're not children. They know what to do. Let's go.

(Jack steps toward Gwen. Owen stops him.)

OWEN: It's all right. I've got her.

(Jack glances at them. He backs away and heads quickly toward the door. Owen puts
Gwen's arm around his shoulder. Jack heads out. Gwen sits up. The kid stands up and
watches as Owen helps Gwen to her feet.)

GWEN: Owen, I want to do it on my own.

(Owen let's Gwen go and she staggers. He quickly grabs her again. They look at each
other.)

KIERAN: (interrupts) Look, I'm sorry about your friends.

(They look back at him.)

CUT TO:

INT. BUILDING 2 -- ICE CELLAR -- DAY

(Toshiko groans as she regains consciousness. She stirs and touches the back of her neck.
Ianto sits on the side with an ice hook watching over her.)

IANTO: You know, I never liked camping.

(Toshiko turns and looks at him. She gets up and looks around the small room serving as
their prison. She reaches for her ankle.)

IANTO: Don't bother. They took the guns.

(From her other ankle, she takes her flashlight out and looks around.)

TOSHIKO: Charming place they've got.

(Toshiko examines the surroundings and the door.)

IANTO: Judging by the sound reverberations ... and the air quality, pretty deep
underground. Chances of rescue?

TOSHIKO: We won't need rescuing. I haven't met a cell yet I couldn't get out of.

IANTO: What were they?

TOSHIKO: I don't know. It happened too quickly. Are you worried?

(Toshiko heads for the chute leading up. She puts a hand on the slide and looks up the
chute.)

IANTO: A little.

(She looks down at her hand and finds it's covered with blood.)

IANTO: Only... that body we saw, in the forest.

TOSHIKO: Don't think about it. See if you can get that light to work, huh?

(Ianto puts the ice hook aside and stands up for the light. Toshiko looks at the fluid on
her hand. Ianto works on the light. Toshiko continues to look around the room.)

IANTO: You're used to this, aren't you? That facial expression you all share. When
things get a bit ... out of control. Like you enjoy it.

(Toshiko finds something on the ground.)

IANTO: Like you get a high from the danger.

TOSHIKO: You want me to apologize for that?

IANTO: Don't you ever wonder how long you can survive before you go mad, or get
killed, or lose a loved one?

TOSHIKO: It's worth the risk. To protect people.

IANTO: And who protects us?!

(Toshiko doesn't say anything.)

TOSHIKO: God, I'm hungry.

(She steps back to examine the wall.)

IANTO: You should have had that cheeseburger.

TOSHIKO: Not THAT hungry.

(They smile. Ianto abandons getting the light to work. Toshiko, meanwhile, has found
something.)

TOSHIKO: What's that?

IANTO: You've found something?

TOSHIKO: It's just a shoe. (She looks up.) Wait, there's another. There's dozens of
them.

(In the small area there are shoes and clothes strewn about.)

IANTO: Oh, my God ...

TOSHIKO: How many people have been down here?

IANTO: And what happened to them?

TOSHIKO: Is that a fridge?

(Toshiko finds a door and opens it.)

REVERSE VIEW: There are items on racks.

(Toshiko quickly slams the door shut. She looks freaked.)

IANTO: Tosh, what is it, what's in there?

(Ianto gets up.)

IANTO: Tell me!

(Toshiko grabs him.)

TOSHIKO: Ianto, don't.

IANTO: I want to know!

(He heads for the fridge and opens the door.)

ON IANTO'S HORRIFIED LOOK

(The fridge is bloodied on the inside and filled with body parts – some wrapped in
plastic, some not.)

TOSHIKO: That's why there was nothing left on the body. They need to eat.

(Ianto gasps.)

TOSHIKO: We're food.

(The refrigerator door slams shut.)

INT. BUILDING -- MAIN DINING HALL – DAY

(Owen and Jack grabs furniture and barricade themselves in the pub.)

OWEN: So, if we barricade ourselves in, what happens to Tosh and Ianto?

JACK: Why are we still talking about this? Tosh and Ianto can look after
themselves.

(The kid is lying down on the side, his eyes closed and hugging the rifle to his chest.)

JACK: The kid is our first priority and they've already been for him once. They're
not going to give up that easily.

(Gwen is at the blackboard next to the dartboard and is writing notes.)

GWEN: So have we ever heard of a species who strip human bodies of flesh and
organs?

(Owen walks up to her.)

OWEN: What are you doing? You need to rest.

GWEN: I'm compiling what we've got. Seeing if it helps.

(Owen nods.)

JACK: We have to assume the others who disappeared have been killed, too.

GWEN: So, you think there's been seventeen deaths?

JACK: At least. These aren't casual killers.

(Gwen writes more notes on the board.)

(Owen checks his weapon.)

OWEN: Okay. So all this means is the rift is spreading. It's dumping aliens
and psychos wherever it fancies.

JACK: Looks like that.

OWEN: Great. This conversation's cheered me up no end.

(Gwen turns and catches a shadow moving outside the pub window. She gasps.)

GWEN: Did you see that?

JACK: Something outside?

(Gwen nods. Owen turns and sees a shadow move across another window. He turns and points
the gun at it.)

OWEN: Was that the same one or different?

(Gwen takes her gun out and points it at a window. Jack walks over to the window and
checks outside.)

(Gwen glances over her shoulder at the kid who is still lying down and hugging the rifle.)

GWEN: (whispers) He said they'd come back.

JACK: Let's not jump to conclusions. We don't know who they are or what their
intentions are.

(The lights go out, plunging them into the dark. Jack runs and disappears down the back
hallway.)

OWEN: I'm thinking that's not a good sign.

(Gwen and Owen watch the barricaded door. Something moves. Gwen gasps. They hear another
sound. Gwen gasps again. Kieran gets up.)

KIERAN: They've come back.

GWEN: Kieran, listen to my voice, okay. Just come back. Kieran!

(They listen carefully. They hear the squeak of a door handle turning so very slowly. Jack
turns and looks at the cellar door.)

JACK: Okay, so we didn't check the cellar.

(The cellar door is chained. It opens and something pushes it, but the measly chain stops
it. Jack turns to brace the door.)

KIERAN: You can't let them in!

GWEN: Come back from the door.

(Panicking, Kieran turns toward the barricaded door.)

KIERAN: Don't let them in!

OWEN: Sit down! We've got this under control!

KIERAN: You don't understand. You don't know what they're like.

(The chairs stacked up against the front door falls. Kieran fires at the door.)

(Shots fire back – breaking and shattering glass. Owen and Gwen huddle under the bar
counter. Jack huddles near the cellar door.)

(Something's got Kieran and is dragging him out the door.)

KIERAN: No, please ... please, no, not me ... !

(Gwen gets up to help him.)

GWEN: Kieran!

(Jack stops her.)

KIERAN: HELP ME!

(The thing pulls Kieran out the door.)

GWEN: Kieran!

(Jack holds Gwen back.)

JACK: It's pitch black. You don't have any tracking devices! Do you want to get
yourself killed?

GWEN: Get out of my way!

JACK: Look, whatever's in that cellar took three bullets. I heard it fall. Once we
know what it is, then, we'll know how to deal with it.

GWEN: You do that. We'll go after Kieran and the others.

JACK: You are wounded!

GWEN: Do you think that's gonna stop me?!

(Jack steps aside.)

JACK: Be careful.

(Gwen heads down into the cellar. Jack motions for Owen to follow.)

JACK: Go.

(Owen follows her.)

(We hold on Jack as he watches them go.)

INT. BUILDING 2 -- ICE CELLAR – NIGHT

(Toshiko and Ianto work on getting the door open.)

TOSHIKO: Got to be three steel bolts -- top, middle and bottom.

IANTO: How are you at calculating target stress points? Find the weakest point, bit
of brute force ...

(Toshiko starts tugging at something on the ground.)

TOSHIKO: Nice thought. But it's reinforced.

(Ianto grabs the pipe above him and braces himself as he kicks the door. THUMP! THUMP! The
little window in the door opens and lights from the other side filters in.)

(Ianto steps to the side of the door. Toshiko looks up. The door opens and someone
carrying a gun enters the cellar. Ianto scuffles with them and is pushed to the ground.)

HELEN SHERMAN: Get off! Look at me, you idiot! I'm not gonna hurt you!

TOSHIKO: You've got a gun.

HELEN SHERMAN: I promise, I promise.

TOSHIKO: Okay, okay ... give her some space.

HELEN SHERMAN: Thank you. (to Ianto) Were you injured? When they took you? Can I
see? I'm a nurse.

(She reaches out to touch Ianto. He flinches from her. She backs away.)

HELEN SHERMAN: Okay, okay, okay.

(She looks at Toshiko.)

HELEN SHERMAN: Does anyone else know you're here? Have you managed to call for
help?

TOSHIKO: We don't need any help. There's three more of us in the village.

HELEN SHERMAN: I can't help you.

(She starts backing away from them.)

HELEN SHERMAN: I'm sorry.

IANTO: What do you mean?

HELEN SHERMAN: I've been sent to collect you. I've got to take you to them.

TOSHIKO: Tell us what's going on. We can help.

(The woman laughs.)

HELEN SHERMAN: No-one's safe. Every ten years ... it takes us again.

TOSHIKO: What takes you? What is it?

HELEN SHERMAN: The Harvest.

(Toshiko looks at Ianto. Ianto steps forward to rush the woman, but the holds the gun on
him.)

HELEN SHERMAN: No, please. You have to come with me.

(Toshiko drops her ice hook.)

INT. BUILDING -- PUB CELLAR -- NIGHT

(Jack comes down the stairs and stops at a door. He enters the room. It's an old
storage cellar with shelves and glass jars on shelves. He looks around.)

BEHIND THE SHELVES POV: Jack looks in the room. Jack swings the light to the shelves.

(Jack walks over to the shelves and notices the things in the jars. Further in the room
are two wooden slabs that look like reclining seats.)

(He looks down. At the base of the wooden slabs is a line of blood. Jack hears the sound
of someone breathing. He swings around and finds a man in a hood and mask huddled in the
corner of the room.)

(The man removes his hood and mask. His fingertips are blood-stained.)

MARTIN: Help me. Please help.

JACK: Did you attack us?

MARTIN: I'm dying, help me ... I'll tell you everything ...

TIME CUT:

(Jack puts the man down on the reclining wooden slab. The man's been shot. Jack ties
a cloth around the man's right thigh.)

(The man gasps from the pain.)

JACK: This'll help you for a short amount of time. Now start talking.

(The man shakes his head.)

MARTIN: You've got to get help. I know where you can get some.

(Jack slaps him in the face.)

JACK: We had a deal. I help you, you tell me where they've taken the boy and what
the hell is going on around here.

(The man laughs mirthlessly at Jack.)

MARTIN: You don't know?

(Jack's patience has run out. He grabs the cloth around the man's leg and
removes it.)

MARTIN: What are you doing?! Put it back!

(Jack grabs the man's face.)

JACK: You need to know something. A long time ago, I was pretty good at torture.
You see, I had quite a reputation as the go-to guy. My job demanded it at the time, you
see. So I know where to apply the tiniest amount of pressure to a wound like yours.

(Jack applies pressure somewhere and the man whimpers.)

MARTIN: You've gotta stop, you're gonna kill me. (begs) Help me! Please stop!!

(Jack doesn't stop.)

JACK: It's in your power to get me to stop. Just tell me what I need to know.
Because in ten seconds, I'm gonna find a sharp object.

(Jack takes out his gun and shows it to the man.)

MARTIN: Right. All right. I'll tell you everything. Just stop.

JACK: Now talk.

EXT. FRONT YARD – NIGHT

(Owen and Gwen are walking outside. Gwen is leaning heavily on Owen.)

OWEN: Are you sure you're all right?

GWEN: Yeah, fine, I'm fine.

(In front of them, a police vehicle approaches, sirens wailing and lights flashing.)

GWEN: That's all we bloody need.

(They head over.)

GWEN: Let me do the talking, I'll get rid of him.

(The officer gets out of the car.)

HUW: Who are you, please?

GWEN: Special Ops. From Torchwood, have you heard of Torchwood?

HUW: What's that then, a band is it? What's wrong with her?

OWEN: Mate, you wouldn't understand.

GWEN: What's that light over there?

(Over the officer's shoulder, they see a light coming through the distance. The
officer glances behind him before turning back to Gwen and Owen.)

HUW: The Big House? Sort of unofficial village hall. Village meeting tonight,
that's why I'm here. Constabulary report.

OWEN: Come on.

(Owen and Gwen run past the officer.)

HUW: Where do you think you're going?

INT. THE BIG HOUSE – NIGHT

(Helen Sherman herds Toshiko and Ianto into the building.)

HELEN SHERMAN: In there, please.

TOSHIKO: If you help us, we can stop all this. Please.

HELEN SHERMAN: I'm sorry. Get back.

(She pushes Toshiko back with the tip of her rifle. The woman moves around them.
That's when Toshiko notices the smell. She turns around.)

TOSHIKO: Oh, God, that stench ...

(Behind them, a plastic sheeting has been hung from the ceiling to the floor. There's
a large tear in the center of the sheeting to pass through. Toshiko and Ianto step into
the next room through the hole in the sheeting. What they see horrifies them.)

(There are organs in glass jars on the chopping board in the center of the room. Bodies
are wrapped completely in plastic and hung from the ceiling along the walls. Blood is
everywhere.)

TOSHIKO: Tell us what these creatures are.

(Helen steps through the plastic sheeting into the room.)

TOSHIKO: Do they look like us?

(A man stands there.)

EVAN SHERMAN: How else are we gonna look?

(Toshiko turns around. Evan Sherman steps into the room. Helen laughs at Toshiko. Evan and
Helen kiss. Ianto runs for them. Evan punches Ianto in the stomach and he goes down. Helen
raises her rifle at Toshiko.)

(Evan handcuffs Ianto's hands behind him.)

HELEN SHERMAN: There are three more out there.

EVAN SHERMAN: Not a problem. How are they?

HELEN SHERMAN: They're in a good state.

(Evan grabs Toshiko and kicks her in the back of the legs. She goes down. He ties her
hands behind her. Helen lowers her rifle.)

HELEN SHERMAN: I think they're the best we've ever had.

EVAN SHERMAN: Yeah? Oh, I forgot to tell you, we caught the boy. Finally.

(Evan grabs Kieran who is tied up on the kitchen floor.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Come on. Come on.

(Evan removes the bag around his head.)

KIERAN: I won't tell anyone!

(Evan looks at Kieran. Helen looks at Ianto.)

TOSHIKO: Who is he?

EVAN SHERMAN: He's meat.

(He pushes Kieran back down.)

EVAN SHERMAN: I'm afraid we're all just meat.

(He heads through the sheeting into the next room.)

IANTO: (to Toshiko) Get ready to run.

(They both turn and see Helen give a baseball bat to Evan.)

TOSHIKO: What're you going to do, put us on meat hooks?

EVAN SHERMAN: No, not yet. You see ... meat ... has to be tenderized first.

(Evan looks at Toshiko. She turns and looks at Ianto who nods back. Evan turns to Ianto
and smiles at him. Ianto moves forward. BAMM! He head butts Evan square in the
forehead and blocks Helen's way with his body. Toshiko runs out the building.)

(Evan punches Ianto in the stomach. Ianto goes down. Evan kicks Ianto in the side and
grabs a large knife off the counter. He turns to Helen.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Go! Get the others!

(He takes off after Toshiko.)

(Ianto pants on the kitchen floor. He looks across at Kieran, then looks up. Helen brings
the butt of the rifle down on him.)

SMASH TO BLACK.

EXT. BACK WOODS -- NIGHT

(Evan runs out into the night with the large knife and a flashlight. Toshiko is hiding on
the side of a small dip in the ground.)

EVAN SHERMAN: I know you're here.

(Evan comes really close to where Toshiko is hiding. He makes kissy sounds)

(He doesn't appear to see her. He turns, chuckles and runs off in a direction.
Toshiko inches to the side to see if she can see where he went.)

(She gets up and starts running in the opposite direction. Evan grabs her from behind.
Toshiko struggles. He pushes her back on the ground and looms over her.)

EVAN SHERMAN: No-one's coming for you.

(Toshiko kicks the man between his lets. He doubles over.)

CUT TO:

(Toshiko is running. She ducks behind a tree. She looks around the tree to see if she can
see Evan. She doesn't, so she takes a breather. She looks around the tree again, and
this time, she sees Evan's flashlight moving.)

(She starts running again. Evan runs after her.)

VARIOUS CUTS:

(Toshiko runs through some trees which slows her down. Evanreaches the trees and goes
through them quickly. She gets out of the trees and falls on the ground. He catches up
with her and puts his foot on her back.)

EVAN SHERMAN: No more games.

(He rolls her over and starts choking her.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Hush now.

(Evan looms over Toshiko. The muzzle of a gun appears at his temple, a light shines on
him.)

OWEN: Get off her or I'll shoot!

(Owen, Gwen and the officer stand nearby.)

OWEN: (shouts) GET OFF HER OR I'LL SHOOT!

(Evan continues to choke Toshiko. He doesn't care. He even chuckles madly. Owen kicks
him off her. Toshiko gasps for breath.)

(Gwen goes down to hug Toshiko while Owen kicks the man and keeps him down on the ground.)

GWEN: We saw the torchlight.

TOSHIKO: They've murdered all the villagers. They're cannibalizing the bodies!

EVAN SHERMAN: Put the gun down.

OWEN: You're in no position to negotiate, mate.

GWEN: It's all right, it's all right. You're safe. (to the constable) You can
arrest him now.

(He doesn't move.)

GWEN: I said you can arrest him!

EVAN SHERMAN: You gonna arrest me, Huw?

HUW: That'd be a laugh, wouldn't it? My own uncle.

(The officer takes out his own gun and points it at Owen. Owen takes a breath. He
doesn't move his foot off the uncle. Gwen quickly lets Toshiko go and points her own
gun at the officer.)

GWEN: Put the gun down. Don't you hurt him.

(Owen doesn't move.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Shoot the bastard.

(The officer moves in closer to Owen, but he doesn't shoot.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Split his skull.

GWEN: (shouts) Put the fucking gun down!

EVAN SHERMAN: Shoot.

GWEN: I will shoot you! Put it down.
EVAN SHERMAN: Pull the trigger, kill.

(Gwen and Owen look at each other. Owen shakes his head. Gwen gives up her gun. The
officer takes her gun and points it at her.)

(The uncle stands up.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Why don't you give me the gun? Mate.

[Note: or 'meat.']

(He takes the gun from Owen.)

CUT TO:

INT. THE BIG HOUSE – NIGHT

(The door opens and Gwen is pushed into the room. Toshiko and Owen follow. Evan, Huw and
four other people are sitting at the table.)

TOSHIKO: Who are these people?

HELEN SHERMAN: This is our village.

GWEN: But the villagers are dead.

(They look at the small group in the room who really couldn't care less at that
statement. Toshiko figures it out.)

TOSHIKO: They're all involved. They've all been doing it.

EVAN SHERMAN: This is our Harvest.

OWEN: Only in the bloody countryside! You sick fuckers.

(Evan and Martin grab the three prisoners and push them into the kitchen area.)

INT. THE BIG HOUSE -- KITCHEN -- CONTINUIOUS

(Evan pushes Owen and Toshiko to their knees. Gwen goes over to Kieran.)

GWEN: Are you okay?

(Toshiko looks around.)

TOSHIKO: Where's Ianto? What have you done with him?

(Evan grabs Ianto on the floor behind the butcher's table, a burlap bag over his
head. He pulls off the bag.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Wake up, man. Time to be bled.

(Evan grabs the meat cleaver off the table.)

EVAN SHERMAN: Like veal, it takes a long time. But it definitely makes the meat
taste better.

(As Helen watches, she notices the glass bowl on the table vibrating. Then everyone hears
it. The sounds of motors and rumbling noises that get louder and louder.)

EVAN SHERMAN: What now?

(Evan lets Ianto go and goes to check on

EVAN SHERMAN: What the fuck ... ?

(They stand and watch the double doors.)

CRASH!

(The large gray tractor bursts through the double doors. Evan ducks. The tractor stops in
the middle of the kitchen.)

(Jack appears with a rifle and shoots Evan in his leg. He then continues shooting at
anyone standing up. Owen and the others are ducking to avoid getting hit.)

(Jack shoots and hits a villager and another and another. Helen runs to her rifle leaning
against the stove. As soon as she grabs it, Jack shoots her. He continues firing.)

(When the rifle runs out, he grabs his handgun and shoots the remaining villagers. He
turns and shoots the officer in the leg.)

(Huw goes down. Jack hits everyone and stands in the middle of the room looking around.
The officer reaches for his gun on the floor nearby.)

JACK: Oh, really?

(Jack shoots his hand. Toshiko gets up.)

(Jack grabs Evan and puts his gun under his chin.)

GWEN: No, Jack! Don't do it.

JACK: These people don't deserve warnings.

GWEN: Let me question him. I have to understand. I want to know why. Otherwise
this, this is too much.

TOSHIKO: They're injured, they need to get to the hospital.

GWEN: Owen you control the bleeding and then phone the police. Jack, please give me
an hour with him. (softer) Don't tell me you don't want to know, too.

(Jack releases Evan.)

CUT TO:

INT. PUB – DAY

(Jack, Gwen and Evan Sherman sit around a table.)

GWEN: The whole village was involved.

EVAN SHERMAN: Every generation. Our tradition. Once a decade. Target those
traveling through, those most likely to disappear.

GWEN: And butcher them. What sort of people are you that you wake up in the morning
and think, this is what I'm going to do? Why'd you do it?

(Evan doesn't answer.)

GWEN: Come on! Make me understand.

EVAN SHERMAN: Why do you care?

GWEN: I have seen things you would never believe. And this is the only thing I
can't understand.

(Evan turns and smiles as he looks at Jack. He turns back to Gwen who is expecting an
answer.)

EVAN SHERMAN: So, keep on wondering.

GWEN: (shouts) Tell me! I need to know why!

(Jack stands up.)

JACK: That's enough. Time to go.

EVAN SHERMAN: I'll tell you something ... if you let me whisper.

GWEN: Okay.

(Evan leans forward, very close to Gwen's ear. Jack stands over them.)

EVAN SHERMAN: (whispers) Cos it made me happy.

(Jack grabs the uncle by his collar.)

JACK: Come on.

(He pulls him away from Gwen, who is just stunned by the answer.)

JACK: Out.

(Jack and the uncle leave.)

(Gwen remains at the table.)

EXT. PUB – FRONT DRIVE – DAY

(Officers are there, their cars parked on the drive. Owen gets out of the Torchwood SUV.
Iantos sits on the back of the SUV. Kieran is being tended to by the paramedics.)

(Gwen heads out and passes Huw smiling as he's being led away by a real officer. She
turns and watches him go.)

(Gwen clutches her side and gasps from the pain. She sees Evan being put into the back
seat of a parked officer car.)

(Jack and Owen watch Gwen walk past. She's crying. We hold on Owen and Jack.)

EXT. CARDIFF CITY (STOCK) – DAY

(Aerial view of the city. Sirens wail in the distance.)

INT. GWEN'S FLAT – LIVING ROOM]

(Gwen and Rhys sit on the sofa watching television.)

GWEN: (v.o.) I had a good job before this. I thought in a year or two, perhaps a
baby. I know Rhys would be a good dad and I could try for Desk Sergeant and ...

(Gwen is barely watching the television set and Rhys notices as he watches Gwen.)

EXT. SIDEWALK

(Gwen walks down the sidewalk.)

GWEN: (v.o.) Well, it was all slotting into place ... and then I met you lot.

(She walks out of frame.)

INT. OWEN'S PLACE

(Gwen stands in front of the large picture windows overlooking the city lights.)

GWEN: (v.o.) All these things ... all these things, they're changing me. Changing
how I see the world.

(She's dressed in a man's shirt, a rumpled bed behind her.)

GWEN: And I can't share them with anyone.

(Owen walks up to her.)

OWEN: You can now.

(He holds her. She leans back and they kiss. Without breaking the kiss, she turns around
and grabs him. They are locked in a passionate embrace.)

FADE TO BLACK.
