SUMMARY: Ianto has a secret hidden away in the Torchwood basement: the last
remnants of his girlfriend Lisa who was rescued mid-conversion into a cyberman.

FADE IN:
[INTRODUCTION]
JACK HARKNESS: (v.o.) Torchwood. Outside the government, beyond the police.
Tracking down alien life on Earth and arming the human race against the future. The 21st
century is when everything changes. And you've got to be ready.
FADE IN:
CU: IANTO
(Ianto adjusts his tie. The elevator door behind him opens and he exhales a breath. He
turns around and exits the elevator.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- DAY
(Owen, Gwen, Toshiko and Jack are playing a pick-up game of basketball in the hub.
They're having a grand time.)
OWEN: Okay! Come on, Gwen!
(Gwen tries to get in the clear. Jack picks her up and places her on the side.)
(We follow IANTO has he enters the hub. He slows at the gates.)
(The rest of the team continues their game. There's much shouting and laughter going
on. They don't notice he's there.)
(Owen stands up on the workstation platform. He's got the ball.)
OWEN: Gwen, this is for you, baby!
OWEN: Come on!
(He throws the ball to Gwen. Jack intercepts it. The game continues.)
OWEN: Just get it off him!
OWEN: Take if out of his hands! Oi!
(Gwen takes the ball from Jack and she tosses it up to Owen who is still on the second
floor workstation platform.)
OWEN: Oh, come to Daddy!
(He catches the ball, moves over a couple of steps and drops the ball into the basket.
Nothing but net.)
OWEN: YES! First round's on you, boss.
(Ianto stands just outside the gate. They still don't acknowledge his presence. He
watches as the gate opens. The group gets their stuff and heads out.)
OWEN: Girls, get your handbags!
JACK: Of course, that was an illegal move.
TOSHIKO: Totally illegal!
OWEN: Yeah, keep telling yourself that, yeah. Losers. Bye.
(They head out past Ianto. Jack tosses the ball to Ianto who catches it.)
(The group leaves.)
(Ianto stands there as the elevator doors close on the group. He waits a beat, then moves
quickly into the hub. He's got things to do.)
CUT TO:
EXT. CARDIFF (STOCK) – DAY
(Lovely aerial view of the bay.)
EXT. MILLENNIUM CENTRE -- DAY
(The team walks across the yard.)
GWEN: He's never seen a live rugby match!
JACK: I have other things to do with my time!
GWEN: Rhys knows a bloke whose cousin works at the Millennium Stadium. We should
all go to the next home international.
INT. TORCHWOOD – CONFERENCE ROOM – DAY
(Ianto is on the phone.)
IANTO: (to phone) Can you make it two Pepperoni Feasts tonight? And a tub of
coleslaw. My boss says I'm not eating enough vegetables.
(He looks down. The doors open and a man carrying a briefcase walks in. Ianto leaves the
room and hurries down to meet the man.)
IANTO: (to phone) Yeah, usual time. See you then.
(Ianto hangs up. The man waits in the center of the hub. He looks up at the area as Ianto
makes his way eagerly down the steps.)
IANTO: Good to see you again, sir. Are they looking after you at the hotel?
(He stops in front of Tanizaki and bows.)
IANTO: Konnichiwa, Tanizaki-san.
TANIZAKI: Konnichiwa.
(Ianto takes Tanizaki's case and shows him in through the hub. Tanizaki follows.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR – DAY – CONTINUOUS
(Ianto leads Tanizaki to the door at the end of the corridor.)
(Ianto puts the case down and takes out a key. He uses the key to unlock the door. He
unbolts the door, turns and looks at Tanizaki.)
IANTO: I did all I could. I really did.
(He pushes the door open and they enter the room.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM – DAY – CONTINUOUS
(Ianto puts the case down and they look at what he wants Tanizaki to see.)
VARIOUS CUTS OF:
(A large metal frame of sorts holding something. We see a bedside table with a vase of
flowers and a framed photo of a man with his head in a woman's lap. They're
smiling at each other. There is a ventilator, a heart monitor and IV stands.)
(On the table, a person is hooked up – an arm in a metal cast and IV tubings
extending from her body. Tanizaki steps forward. He can hardly believe his eyes.)
(Ianto steps forward and adjusts the bed, tilting it to an angle.)
(There, in the center of the room is a partially transformed cyberwoman.)
TANIZAKI: My God! It's not possible! One of them survived!
(Ianto steps forward and kisses the cyberwoman on the lips. He turns and looks at
Tanizaki.)
IANTO: This is Lisa.
(Lisa's eyes open.)
(Ianto steps away from Lisa.)

ROLL TITLE CREDITS
FADE IN:
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM – DAY
(Tanizaki stares at Lisa.)
TANIZAKI: Is she awake?
IANTO: (shakes his head) It's just a reaction to the medication.
(Tanizaki takes his glasses out and puts them on for a better look.)
TANIZAKI: She's the only one left. Across the whole world.
(He turns and shakes Ianto's hand.)
TANIZAKI: Thank you, thank you so much. Bringing me here. I never thought ...
(He climbs up and checks Lisa's pupil with his penlight.)
TANIZAKI: ... to get my chance ... to study ...
(He moves around to the other side to check her other pupil with his penlight.)
TANIZAKI: ... to work with ... anything like this.
IANTO: (corrects) Anyone.
TANIZAKI: Tell me, what happened?
IANTO: She worked for Torchwood London. (As he talks, Tanizaki checks Lisa's
legs.) It was the end of the Canary Wharf battle. The Cybermen needed soldiers fast. They
started upgrading whole bodies instead of transplanting brains using Earth technology.
Lisa was halfway through the process when the machinery shut down.
(Ianto slips his hand into Lisa's.)
TANIZAKI: You found her?
(Quick flashback to: Ianto screams as he drags Lisa out of the area as people scream all
around him.)
IANTO: Help! Help me, please! Somebody!
IANTO: Help me!
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
IANTO: I pulled her out.
TANIZAKI: Do you know the percentages?
IANTO: The what?
TANIZAKI: Some elements have been augmented. Some are still human. Sensory
capacity, for instance. Her breathing and hearing appears completely cybernetic. And yet
... there's also bare flesh.
(Much to Ianto's annoyance, Tanizaki runs his hand over Lisa's stomach flesh,
treating her like a machine than a woman.)
TANIZAKI: Amazing.
(Tanizaki puts his hand on Lisa's breast as he pushes himself back down off the
tilted table. He doesn't think anything of it. He backs away from the table to get a
look at the cyberwoman.)
TANIZAKI: Perhaps 55% augmentation with 45% awaiting completion. Do you think?
(Ianto doesn't answer. Tanizaki has his hands on Lisa's hips.)
TANIZAKI: Or perhaps, maybe 60/40. It's fascinating.
IANTO: Can you make her human again?
(Tanizaki looks around the room.)
TANIZAKI: You took parts from a Cyber conversion unit and modified them into a life
support for her? How did you know what to do?
LISA: I told him.
IANTO: I thought you were resting. You should be resting. How's the pain? Are the
new doses working?
(Lisa's eyes open. She looks at Ianto.)
LISA: A little. Oh! ... (She groans and pants. Then she looks at Tanizaki.) Is this
him?
IANTO: I promised, didn't I?
LISA: And you always keep your promises.
(Ianto nods.)
TANIZAKI: I would like to ask her some questions. My name is Dr. Tanizaki. I
specialize in Cybernetics. Your friend, Mr. Jones, asked me ...
LISA: (interrupts) My boyfriend.
TANIZAKI: Yes. He asked me to come.
LISA: We agreed, together.
TANIZAKI: A few simple questions. What is your name?
LISA: Lisa Hallett.
(He enters the information in his PDA.)
TANIZAKI: How old are you?
LISA: Twenty-six.
TANIZAKI: What is the last thing you remember before coming here?
(Quick flashback to: Lisa screams. Ianto is dragging her out and screaming for help.)
IANTO: Somebody! Anybody!
(End of flashback.)
LISA: Pain. I remember my body burning with pain.
(Lisa cries. She glances sideways and looks at Ianto.)
TANIZAKI: You said ... there was somewhere I could work upstairs?
(Ianto stares at Lisa. He nods, barely looking at Tanizaki.)
CUT TO:
EXT. MILLENNIUM CENTRE (STOCK) – DAY
(Stock TOP VIEW DOWN footage of the centre.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – COLD STORAGE – NIGHT
(Tanizaki is working on Lisa in the cold storage area as Ianto watches. Lisa is on a
table.)
TANIZAKI: This first stage should enable her to breathe without the respirator. (He
injects her. He turns and types in the computer.) ) Once her body functions without
support, I can judge what work is needed.
IANTO: What if she's not ready to breathe on her own?
TANIZAKI: You must be prepared for her not to survive.
(Ianto stops and looks at Tanizaki. Tanizaki takes his glasses off and levels a look back
at Ianto.)
TANIZAKI: Sometimes ... in order to save what we love -- (He looks at Lisa.) -- we
have to risk losing it.
(Tanizaki puts his glasses on. He presses a laptop button. The monitors beep. Tanizaki
checks Lisa's pupils)
IANTO: She's not strong enough!
TANIZAKI: (annoyed) Let me do my work!
INT. BAR – NIGHT
(Jack, Owen, Gwen and Toshiko are still at the bar.)
JACK: And she said, "D'you know how difficult it is to find a man in this
city? He had a nice flat, all his own hair, so frankly, a couple of tusks, I can live
with!"
(Everyone laughs. Toshiko's pager beeps. She checks the message:
ALERT
UFO SIGHTING
OVER CARDIGAN BAY )
TOSHIKO: UFO sighting over Cardigan Bay. Seven calls to the emergency services.
OWEN: Oh... Can we at least finish our drinks, please?
JACK: Sure. Take ten seconds.
(Jack finishes up his glass of water. Owen gets up and leaves. Gwen is finishing her
drink.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – COLD STORAGE – NIGHT
(Ianto is holding Lisa's hand. The heart monitor is flatlining. Lisa gasps for
breath, struggling to breathe. He glares at Tanizaki.)
IANTO: If she dies because of you ...
(Suddenly, her eyes open and she gasps for breath. She looks around.)
LISA: Ianto?
IANTO: Yes, I'm here! She's breathing! It worked!
LISA: Why aren't I connected?
IANTO: You're alive! (Ianto kisses her.) He kept you alive!
LISA: (to Tanizaki) Thank you.
TANIZAKI: This is only the start.
(The computer beeps. Ianto looks at it with alarm. He goes to the computer and taps on the
keyboard. On the monitor, he sees Jack and the others headed back to Torchwood.)
IANTO: We've gotta move. Quickly!
(Ianto removes the tubing from Lisa as Tanizaki gathers the machinery. Ianto puts her arm
around his shoulders intending to carry her.)
LISA: I'll walk!
IANTO: You've only just woken up. You can't.
LISA: I want to walk! (She looks at him.) Please.
(He stands her up. Tanizaki moves to support her other shoulder.
IANTO: Help her downstairs. I'll clear up here.
(Ianto moves quickly to clear out the machinery. Tanizaki starts to move Lisa toward the
stairs. She turns and looks back at Ianto.)
LISA: I'm alive.
(Ianto and Lisa look at each other for a moment. Then, Tanizaki again leads Lisa toward
the stairs.)
EXT. MILLENNIUM CENTRE – NIGHT
(Jack, Gwen, Owen and Toshiko are headed back to Torchwood.)
TOSHIKO: All I'm saying is, once in a while, I'd like to drive!
OWEN: And all I'm saying is no!
TOSHIKO: Why not?!
OWEN: Look, I've shared cars with women before. I know what'll happen. There'll be
an emergency, we're all raring to go, I jump in, what do I find? Seat's in the wrong
position, the rear view mirror's out of line and the steering wheel's in my crotch. Time
it takes to sort it all out, aliens'll have taken Newport.
(Jack laughs.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB – NIGHT
(Tanizaki quickly helps Lisa down the steps as they head back down to the storeroom below.
Ianto runs after them.)
INT. COVER SHOP – NIGHT
(Gwen turns and looks at Jack. Toshiko and Owen enter the shop.)
GWEN: What about a rota? Different people drive on different days.
JACK: We're a secret organization, hunting alien technology from an underground
base. And you want a rota for who drives?
(The secret door opens. Jack heads for the door. The others follow.)
GWEN: Just trying to help.
(Gwen runs in as the door swings shut.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HALLWAY – NIGHT
(Tanizaki and Ianto help Lisa through the corridor. They reach the room at the end of the
hallway.)
IANTO: As soon as they're gone, I'll be down.
(Lisa nods. Tanizaki continues to help Lisa forward. Ianto turns and runs out of the room.
He closes the door behind him.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB – NIGHT
(Jack and the others enter.)
JACK: Tosh, call up the radar within a fifty-mile radius of the Bay for the last
six hours.
(They head up the stairs to the workstations.)
JACK: Gwen, check with that man - Neil, I think his name was, voice like Sean
Connery - at Jodrell Bank. See if they picked up any chatter around the time of the
sightings. Owen, access the airspace provision over Cardigan Bay, also any RAF flight
plans, see if it's just a case of mistaken identity.
(Owen nods as Jack heads for his office. Everyone is at their workstations. Ianto appears
on camera. He stops and adjusts his tie and straightens his jacket. He steps away.
Everyone is busy and doesn't notice him.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(Tanizaki helps Lisa back to her table in the center of the room.)
TANIZAKI: Take it slowly. You're still very weak. This way.
(They reach the table. He turns to help her back on the table. Lisa grabs Tanizaki by his
throat and lifts him up off his feet. Tanizaki chokes.)
(His feet dangle and kick out helplessly. Then, he stops.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Ianto walks up to the workstations. Gwen is on the phone.)
GWEN: (to phone) Is that Neil? It's Gwen Cooper from Torchwood. I know, we're
always after something, aren't we?
(Jack calls out to him.)
JACK: Ianto!
(Ianto stops, scared that he's been caught.)
JACK: Would you work some coffee magic?
(Ianto turns around. Jack puts his hands together ... please ...Ianto nods and heads up
the stairs.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(Lisa puts Tanizaki on the cyber table and moves the table down to a flat position.
Tanizaki is awake.)
(The metal restraints clamp shut around his wrists, thighs and ankles. The table stops
moving. The head clamp secures Tanizaki's head.)
TANIZAKI: Lisa! Let me go!
(Lisa leans forward.)
LISA: (mechanical) I can help you. The human race is weak. I can make you strong.
(She turns and presses the button on the side. Electrical pulses move along the wire
framed table, zapping Tanizaki. He screams.)
(The lights fade off and on as the power is drained. The center of the ceiling units open
up and the mechanical cyber conversion arm with its pinchers and saws drop down.)
(Tanizaki continues screaming.)
(Lisa stands on the side and watches. The lights in the room flash off and on.)
(The door slams shut.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB / WORKSTATIONS – NIGHT
(Ianto is making coffee when the lights flash off and on. He looks up.)
(Everyone looks at the lights.)
GWEN: What's happening?
TOSHIKO: Internal power drain.
(Toshiko looks at the monitors.)
GWEN: What's causing it?
(Jack steps out of his office.)
JACK: Something big to drain that amount of power. Tosh, run a system diagnostic.
(Ianto speaks up.)
IANTO: Actually ... We've been having generator problems all evening. I was down
there checking earlier. Couple of bits of cabling have come loose. I thought I'd fixed it.
(Everyone looks at him.)
IANTO: Let me have another look.
JACK: Fine. Go check.
(Ianto starts to leave.)
GWEN: Want some help?
IANTO: It's fine.
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR / STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(Ianto runs through the corridor. The alarms blare.)
(He opens the door to the storeroom.)
IANTO: (shouts) You've got to shut down the power!
(Lights flash as the cyber conversion unit is functioning fully. Ianto runs past Lisa who
is just standing there.)
(Ianto shuts the machine off. He turns and sees Tanizaki's unmoving body on the
floor.)
IANTO: Oh, God! Oh, my God! What happened?!
(He goes to check on Tanizaki whose face has been completely shredded.)
LISA: His upgrade failed.
IANTO: Was it an accident? (He stops.) Tell me you didn't do this!
(Tanizaki's face has been implanted with bits of metal – his eyes and his ears
replaced. There's also a piece of pipe sticking out of his head.)
LISA: I wanted to repay him for helping me. By removing the weaknesses of his
humanity.
IANTO: What have you done?! You've killed an innocent man!
LISA: It's all right.
IANTO: (shouts) It's not all right! They're gonna come looking for me in a minute.
If they see the body, if they find out what we've been doing ...
LISA: I can deal with them.
IANTO: Don't you go near them!
(He stops and thinks.)
IANTO: You didn't mean to do this. Something's happened to your mind. Um ... just,
um ... Some kind of side effect from this whole process. It's post-traumatic. You didn't
mean to ... (shouts) You've ruined everything now!
(He pushes her backward. He turns his back to her. Lisa stares at him. Ianto turns and
cups her cheek.)
IANTO: How hard have we had to work to keep you alive? And now you do this.
(He touches his forehead with hers. He looks at her.)
IANTO: I need you to stay in here. Rest. Don't come out unless I tell you.
(He looks at the body, then back at Lisa.)
IANTO: This can't happen again, Lisa. If you harm anyone else, I'll ...
LISA: Yes? What will you do?
(Ianto stops. Instead of answering her, he turns and looks at the body.)
IANTO: Okay, the body. Got to deal with the body. (He crouches down in front of the
body.) I can do this.
(He looks at the body. He covers his face with his hands and cries.)
IANTO: This is my fault! I'm responsible for this!
(Ianto stops and braces himself. He picks up the body and heads `toward the door.)
IANTO: (to Lisa) I'll hide the body. Everything's gonna be okay.
(Ianto leaves with the body. Lisa remains in the room. Once outside, Ianto puts the body
down and closes the door.)
(Once alone, Lisa goes back to the conversion unit and presses the button to turn it on.
The lights above the table flash and the table tilts upward as if it were waiting for its
next victim.)
(Lisa turns and looks back at the door.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Toshiko shows the suspected UFO image on the monitors as everyone watches.)
GWEN: That's a UFO?!
OWEN: Only just!
(The lights flash across the screen again. Jack recognizes it.)
JACK: Arkan leisure crawler, first generation. Collectors' item, don't see many of
those around these days. Tosh, send a polite message saying great to see them, but could
they please get the hell out of our atmosphere they're spooking the locals.
(Toshiko is typing. She finishes.)
TOSHIKO: Done!
GWEN: Shouldn't we be apprehending it? Investigating it?
JACK: Oh, please. You interrogate an Arkan, you'll be in there for a month. And
that's just the first question. They are so boring. Besides, they're mostly made of
liquid, the cells would be a mess.
(The lights in the hub flash off and on.)
OWEN: There it goes again!
(Toshiko's monitors read a 23% power loss. Jack calls to Ianto over his wrist comm..)
JACK: (to comm) Ianto, we've got another dose of darkness. You found anything?
INT. TORCHWOOD – UNDERGROUND CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
(Ianto is dragging Tanizaki's body through the hallway. The lights flash and he
groans with panic, nearly losing his hold on the body.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATION -- NIGHT
(The lights are still flashing off and on. Toshiko is working on the computers and Jack is
still trying to get Ianto on his wrist comm.)
JACK: (to comm) Ianto? I need to hear those --
INT. TORCHWOOD – UNDERGROUND CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
JACK: (overhead) -- beautiful Welsh vowels!
(Ianto gets a firm grip on Tanizaki's body and continues dragging it through the
hallway.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(Down in the storeroom, Lisa is on the table soaking up the power for herself.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Toshiko is showing a 50% POWER LOSS.)
TOSHIKO: Power's draining to the storeroom at the bottom of the building. (Toshiko
pulls up a schematic of the bottom level.) Looking for human heat signals. We've got ...
(She shows two red dots in the storeroom.)
OWEN: Two signals?
TOSHIKO: So assuming one's Ianto ...
GWEN: Who's the other?
(Jack considers it a moment.)
JACK: I'm thinking we're under attack. Security's been breached. (Jack starts to
run.) We assume battle protocols.
(Toshiko is running after him.)
TOSHIKO: That's impossible! Nobody can get in without triggering seven separate
alarms.
(Jack swipes a card key in a lock. The weapons locker opens and he grabs weapons, handing
them out to the team.)
JACK: Yeah, well, looks like our system needs to be upgraded.
OWEN: I'll head down and look for Ianto.
(Owen cocks his gun.)
GWEN: I'll come with you.
OWEN: (to Jack) You all right with that?
(Jack issues instructions.)
JACK: Keep your comms open at all times. Any doubts, shoot first. Priority is to
find Ianto.
(The team splits. Owen and Gwen head down to the basement while Jack turns and heads back
to the workstations. Toshiko runs after Jack.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
(The door opens. Ianto drags Tanizaki's body into the empty room. The lights flash
off and on. He looks around and drags Tanizaki to a corner at the back of the room. He
puts Tanizaki's body on the floor.)
(Ianto takes a moment and looks at Tanizaki's mutilated face. He grabs the tarp
nearby and covers the body. He pauses before covering up the head.)
IANTO: I'm sorry.
(He pulls the tarp over Tanizaki's face. Ianto gets up and heads out.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
(Gwen and Owen are making their way down the dark corridor. Using their flashlights, they
check the rooms.)
(At the end of the hallway, they see the storeroom with lights from the inside flashing
through the small window in the door.)
GWEN: What's down here?
OWEN: Normally? Nothing.
JACK: (overhead) Progress report?
OWEN: Signs of ...
INTERCUT WITH:
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
OWEN: (from comm.) ... activity at the eastern end of the main corridor.
JACK: We're losing your comms signals.
GWEN: We're going in to have a look.
(Gwen and Owen continue to advance toward the door.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Toshiko's monitors show a 50% POWER LOSS.)
TOSHIKO: Whatever that power source is, it's interfering with the comms.
JACK: Gwen, Owen? Can you hear me? Damn! Can we get them back?
TOSHIKO: Trying other channels. There's something else you need to see. I've gone
back through our internal CCTV footage for the last couple of hours. Someone's tried to
remove the images from our system.
(Up on the monitor, Toshiko finds ENTRY DELETED sections.)
JACK: See, now I'm starting to get a little peeved. These people come into my
house, start using my things ...
TOSHIKO: I've dug into the system memory.
(Toshiko finds a clip of Tanizaki with Ianto in the hub. Ianto takes Tanizaki's case
and shows him in.)
JACK: What the hell's going on here?!
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
OWEN: (to comm) Jack?
(Gwen and Owen continue forward toward the storeroom door.)
OWEN: (to comm) Tosh?
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
JACK: (to comm) Gwen? Owen? Can you hear me?
INT. TORCHWOOD – CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
GWEN: No comms.
OWEN: We're on our own, then.
(Gwen and Owen reach the door. Owen looks inside, but the window is too dirty to see
clearly. He does see the empty table inside.)
OWEN: What the hell is going on?
GWEN: What's the matter?
OWEN: I can't see well enough. But there's something in there. Some kind of
operating table. Get the bolts.
(Gwen unbolts the door.)
GWEN: Okay?
OWEN: Yeah.
(They take a step back and point their guns at the door.)
OWEN: Okay, one, two ...
(Owen kicks the door open and they enter the ...
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM – NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS
-- and look around. Owen looks at the cyber conversion table and then it hits him exactly
what it is that he's looking at.)
OWEN: No! No, no, no, no!
GWEN: What the hell is it?!
OWEN: It's wrong. It's beyond wrong! It shouldn't be here! Turn the thing off!
(shouts) TURN IT OFF!
(Gwen hits the button and turns the unit off.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Up in the workstations, the monitors note AUTO POWER RESUMING.)
TOSHIKO: Internal levels are being restored!
JACK: (to comm) Gwen? Owen? Can you hear me?
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(The comms crackle. Gwen and Owen look at the table.)
OWEN: These things brought down Torchwood One. But they were all destroyed. Why is
there one in our bloody basement?!
GWEN: Just tell me what it does!
OWEN: It's the remnants of a conversion unit. This machinery turns humans into
Cybermen.
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Jack tries again.)
JACK: (to comm) If I don't hear something within thirty seconds, --
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
JACK: (from comm) -- I'm coming down there!
GWEN: (to comm) Jack, it's Gwen. The comms dropped out. We're back online now.
JACK: (from comm) Any sign of Ianto?
OWEN: No. But we have found parts of a Cyber conversion unit.
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
OWEN: (from comm) Fully powered up and working.
JACK: This is no time to be kidding around, Owen.
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
OWEN: I'm deadly serious! I dunno why it's here, or how it got here. But that's
what's draining our power.
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
(Jack is very, very quiet as he thinks. Toshiko watches him and waits.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
OWEN: (to comm) Jack? You there?
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
JACK: (shouts) I want you two back up here immediately!
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
OWEN: (to comm) We still haven't ...
BAMM!
(Owen is hit from behind and falls to the ground. He's out cold. Gwen turns around
and comes face to face with Lisa.)
GWEN: (to comm) Jack, code zero incursion. Repeat!
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- NIGHT
GWEN: (from comm) Code zero incursion. We're under attack.
JACK: (to Toshiko) If you don't hear from me within fifteen minutes, activate total
shutdown procedures and get yourself to safety.
TOSHIKO: But I can't just leave you all here!
JACK: If there's a Cyberman in this building, we need a last line of defense. Just
make sure it never gets to the outside world!
(Jack turns and runs out.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- NIGHT
(Down in the storeroom, Gwen faces off with Lisa. Lisa walks around Gwen and to the side.)
GWEN: Whatever you ... Whoever you are ... I don't mean you any harm. But come any
closer, I'll shoot.
(Lisa knocks the gun out of Gwen's hand and grabs Gwen around her neck, choking her.
She maneuvers Gwen backward toward the table.)
GWEN: Let me go!
LISA: (mechanical) Do not struggle. You will be like me.
(She pushes Gwen back onto the table. She secures Gwen and releases her neck as the table
tilts back flat.)
(The clamps secure her head in place. Gwen stares with wide-eyed fear at the cybernetic
conversation unit above her.)
(Lisa presses the button. Current runs through the metal table.)
(Gwen screams.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HALLWAY / STOREROOM -- CONTINUOUS
(Jack makes his way quickly through the hallway.)
JACK: Throw down any weapons, put your hands up and turn and face me!
(Lisa turns and looks at Jack.)
(She starts for Jack.)
(Jack can't believe what he's seeing.)
JACK: You're a woman!
(Jack stares at her.)
GWEN: Owen! JACK!
(Gwen screams.)
(He raises his gun to shoot. As he fires off the first shot, Ianto pushes him away. Jack
misses and hits the water pipes behind Lisa.)
IANTO: She doesn't know what she's doing!
(Jack pushes Ianto back.)
JACK: You are fighting the wrong guy!
(The center of the ceiling conversion unit opens and the mechanical arms lower.)
GWEN: (screams) Get me out of here! Someone, please!
(Jack and Ianto turn and let go of each other. They rush over to help Gwen.)
GWEN: (screams) Switch it off!
(Ianto presses the button, but nothing happens.)
IANTO: I'm trying! She's changed all the circuits! (He punches the unit.) (to Jack)
Shut off the power everywhere!
JACK: (to comm) Toshiko, cut all power in the base!
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- CONTINUOUS
TOSHIKO: (to comm) I do that, the base goes into lockdown! We'll be trapped.
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- CONTINUOUS
JACK: Just do it!
(Gwen screams. Her eyes are on the threatening machinery moving closer and closer to her.)
GWEN: Switch it off!
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- CONTINUOUS
(Toshiko runs to the main power switch and pulls the lever down.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- CONTINUOUS
(The power shuts off and the machinery stops moving.)
(The doors close.)
[MAIN HUB DOOR]
(All of them. Including the main hub front door.)
[WEAPONS STORAGE]
(The sign over the weapons storage locker flashes:

(The storage locker doors close and lock.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – STOREROOM -- CONTINUOUS
(Jack checks on Owen who is still out cold on the floor. He turns and checks on Gwen.)
JACK: Gwen?
GWEN: I'm fine. I'm fine, I'm fine. Sort of. Jack, please get me out of here!
(Jack looks at Ianto, then back at Gwen.)
JACK: It's all right.
GWEN: Where is she? Where did she go? Please tell me you got her!
(Jack again looks at Ianto.)
JACK: (to Ianto) Stand guard by the door.
(Ianto reaches down and picks up a flashlight. He looks at Gwen.)
IANTO: (to Gwen) I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.
(Jack watches Ianto.)
GWEN: What for?
(But Jack's figured it out. Ianto turns to stand guard at the door.)
JACK: Let's just get out of here.
(Jack presses some buttons on his wrist band and the head clamps release Gwen. The table
tilts back up.)
CUT TO:
INT. TORCHWOOD – HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS
(Ianto leads the group back through the hallway. Behind him, Jack and Gwen follow. Jack
has Owen slung over his shoulders.)
JACK: Clear?
IANTO: Clear.
(The group advances cautiously through the hallway. They are nearly to the doorway at the
end, when Lisa steps out and blocks their passageway out.)
(Gwen gasps.)
GWEN: Oh, God, there she is. What is she?
JACK: Some form of Cyberman. They're us, upgraded. Humans with emotions removed,
created on a parallel world and supposedly destroyed on this one.
GWEN: What are we gonna do?
JACK: I don't know.
(Lisa steps away and disappears from view.)
IANTO: She's gone.
(Jack puts the muzzle of his gun against Ianto's temple. He cocks the weapon.)
JACK: Get us back to the Hub.
GWEN: Jack, what are you doing?!
JACK: Resisting the urge to shoot.
(The group continues forward.)
CUT TO:
INT. TORCHWOOD – WORKSTATIONS -- CONTINUOUS
(Jack and the team return to the hub. Jack has his hand on Ianto's shoulders,
restraining him even though he's not resisting. Toshiko is at the workstation. Owen
sits down on the nearest steps and lies back.)
JACK: Tosh, get everything from the weapons room. Fast as you can.
TOSHIKO: It's locked down, there's no manual override.
JACK: Just open the store!
(Toshiko runs to the weapons locker.)
(Jack turns Ianto.)
JACK: On your knees! Hands above your head!
(Ianto is on his knees, his hands behind his head.)
TOSHIKO: Jack, for God's sake! What are you doing?!
JACK: Tosh! I gave you an order! Gwen, help her!
(Gwen rushes over to help Toshiko.)
JACK: (low, to Ianto) Did you know that thing was down there?
IANTO: I put her there.
JACK: You hid a Cyberman within Torchwood?! And you didn't tell us? What else are
you keeping from us?
IANTO: Like you care. I clear up your shit. No questions asked and that's the way
you like it. When did you last ask me anything about my life?
(Jack puts his gun down.)
IANTO: Her name's Lisa. She's my girlfriend.
GWEN: Why didn't you tell us? We could have helped you.
IANTO: Torchwood exists to destroy alien threats. Why would I tell you about her?
OWEN: A little loyalty, perhaps?
IANTO: My loyalty's to her! She worked for Torchwood. She was caught up in battle.
I owe it to Lisa ... WE owe it to her ... to find a cure.
JACK: Ianto, you have to believe me. There is no cure. There never will be. Those
who are converted stay that way. Your girlfriend will not be the exception.
IANTO: You can't know that for sure.
JACK: Look, you need to know what's happening here. Because this is where these
things start. Small decisions that become mass slaughter. These creatures regain a
foothold by exploiting human weakness. Then they take a base. Rebuild their forces. And
before you know it, the Cyber race is spreading out across the universe, erasing worlds,
assimilating populations. All because of the tiny beginnings here. We need to stop her ...
together!
(Ianto stands up.)
IANTO: You're not listening to me! The conversion was never completed!
JACK: She already tried to kill Gwen! You think she's gonna stop there? There is no
turning back for her now!
IANTO: I'm ... not giving up on her. I love her. Can you understand that, Jack?
Haven't you ever loved anyone?
JACK: You need to figure out whose side you're on here. Because if you don't know
... you're not going to make it out of this alive.
OWEN: There's no way this weapons store's gonna open.
TOSHIKO: It's going to take six hours for the power to come back online.
IANTO: Let me talk to her. I can still save her. Save all of us. She's not a
monster.
(Lisa steps out into the hub. Ianto turns and heads for her. Gwen chases after Ianto.)
GWEN: Ianto!
IANTO: Lisa ...
(Lisa turns and looks at Ianto.)
IANTO: It's me.
GWEN: (to Jack) You can't just let him go ...
JACK: Ssh!
(Lisa looks at the hub.)
LISA: (mechanical voice) The army will be rebuilt from here. This building is
suitable.
JACK: Who are you?
LISA: Human point two.
IANTO: No! Lisa ...
JACK: So how come you look like human point one?
LISA: I do not understand.
JACK: Look at yourself. Go ahead.
(She turns and looks at her reflection in the metal.)
IANTO: Remember, Lisa. Remember who you are.
LISA: The upgrade is incomplete.
IANTO: You're still human.
(He moves closer to her.)
LISA: I am ... disgusting. I have ... I am ... wrong.
IANTO: We can help you.
LISA: I must start again. Upgrade properly.
(Ianto moves in closer.)
IANTO: For God's sake! Have you heard yourself? Lisa, please. I brought you here to
heal you. So we could be together.
(She turns and looks at him.)
LISA: Together. Yes. Transplant my brain into your body. (Ianto cries.) The two of
us ... together. Fused. We'll be one complete person. Isn't that what love is?
IANTO: No.
LISA: Then we are not compatible.
(She grabs him by his neck and throws him across the water running through the hub. Ianto
lands on the concrete on the other side. Hard.)
(Jack raises his gun at Lisa. She fires bolts of electricity at his gun.)
JACK: Argh!
(Jack drops the gun.)
JACK: Code Nine maneuvers. Go!
(Owen and Toshiko disburse quickly. Gwen is too scared to move.)
JACK: Gwen!
(Gwen doesn't move. Lisa turns and heads for Gwen.)
JACK: Gwen! Get out of there!
(Lisa is nearly upon Gwen.)
OWEN: Lisa!
(Lisa turns and looks at Owen.)
OWEN: What you waiting for?
JACK: Gwen!
(Gwen turns and runs toward Jack. Owen heads up the second floor stairs and runs alongside
the hub. Lisa watches him.)
LISA: Run. We all ran.
(The team meets on the second floor in the conference room.)
GWEN: She's coming after us.
OWEN: There's a surprise.
GWEN: Could you be any less helpful?!
OWEN: Oi! I just helped you escape!
JACK: (shouts) Shut up, both of you! Okay, now, this is a fight to the death. We do
whatever is necessary to destroy her. Forget what Ianto said. That thing is not human.
Clear?
GWEN: Yeah, yeah.
(Everyone nods. Jack pushes a device toward Toshiko. She picks it up off the table.)
TOSHIKO: What's this?
JACK: Something Suzie scavenged last year. She claimed that it could open any lock
in 45 seconds. I want you out the exit gates up the emergency stairs to reception.
OWEN: She'll never open that door without power! It weighs a ton!
TOSHIKO: Anyway, I'm not leaving you here!
JACK: (shouts) Just do as I say! All of you!
(Lisa is making her way across the hub.)
JACK: Once in reception ... panel next to the desk, pull it out.
(Jack pulls out two containers and hands them to Toshiko.)
JACK: Take circuit 357 from the main system and patch it to these. There should be
enough power in there for what we need. Once the main circuit goes live, get out. Meet us
by the water tower.
(Toshiko hesitates.)
JACK: (shouts) GO!
(Toshiko turns and leaves. Jack looks at Owen and Gwen.)
JACK: You two ... find anything that even resembles a weapon.
OWEN: Uh ... autopsy room. There should be some lethal equipment there.
GWEN: What are you gonna do?
JACK: Buy you some time. GO!
(Owen and Gwen run out. Lisa turns to follow them.)
JACK: Hey! Lisa!
(Lisa stops, turns and looks at Jack.)
JACK: It is Lisa, isn't it?
(She turns and heads for Jack, the conference table between them.)
JACK: You've been hiding in my basement. That's okay. Draining my power, I can live
with that ... but now you're starting to hurt my friends. This is gonna stop!
(Jack runs out of the conference room and heads back down the steps leading to the main
hub. Lisa follows him.)
(Down below, Toshiko has reached the doors.)
(Jack is making his way down the stairs. Lisa is still following him.)
(Toshiko reaches up and puts the unlock mechanism against the door. She waits for it to
work.)
(Lisa is still making her way down the stairs.)
(Toshiko waits for the door to unlock.)
TOSHIKO: Come on!
(Lisa is down the main hub.)
LISA: This building belongs to me now. You will all be deleted ...
(Jack steps in front of her. She turns and looks at Jack.)
JACK: I'm sorry for what they did to you. But this ends here.
(She grabs Jack by his neck and zaps him. Jack screams.)
(Owen and Gwen are down on the other side of the hub. Gwen sees Jack and runs to help
him.)
GWEN: Jack!
(Lisa continues zapping Jack. He falls to his knees.)
(Owen grabs Gwen and stops her.)
(Jack falls to the ground. Lisa releases her hold on him. Toshiko is standing at the front
door, her eyes wide at seeing Jack fall.)
(Lisa looks at Jack's unmoving body. She turns away from him. Toshiko stares.)
(The machine beeps and the door unlocks. Toshiko grabs it and opens the door. She slips
outside.)
(Jack stands up.)
(Owen and Gwen watch.)
OWEN: How did he survive that?
(Lisa turns back to Jack.)
JACK: Is that all you got? I'm not so easily deleted.
(Lisa again grabs Jack's shoulder and zaps him. Jack yells and falls to his knees. He
again falls to the floor.)
(Owen starts to leave.)
OWEN: We can't help him.
(Owen leaves for autopsy. Gwen lingers. She looks at Jack on the floor and Ianto still out
cold nearby.)
(Gwen backs away and follows Owen.)
(Toshiko still hasn't left. Lisa turns and looks at her in between the two doors.
Toshiko finally puts the device against the lock for the outer door.)
(Lisa turns and heads toward Toshiko. The device beeps and the door unlocks. Lisa is
nearly toward the door.)
(Toshiko turns and uses all her strength against the outer door. It starts to roll open.)
(Lisa reaches the cage doors and yanks them open easily.)
(Toshiko slips through the crack in the door and pushes the door closed.)
(Lisa climbs up the steps toward the outer door.)
(Toshiko pushes the door closed, sealing it. She rests against the closed door as she
pants for breath.)
CRASH!
(Lisa's fist breaks the small circular window next to Toshiko's head. Toshiko
gasps and backs away as Lisa's arm reaches through the window, stretching out toward
her.)
(Toshiko backs away, turns and runs up the stairs to the store above.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(Owen and Gwen run down to autopsy. Owen looks through the tray of stuff, looking for a
weapon, while Gwen keeps her flashlight on Lisa.)
(Lisa turns around and looks back at Gwen.)
GWEN: Shit!
(Lisa turns and heads toward them.
GWEN: Is there another exit?
OWEN: No! We're trapped.
(Owen pushes the gurney between them.)
OWEN: Get in!
GWEN: No way!
(He opens the morgue door.)
OWEN: Lie on top of me and it'll take us both.
GWEN: I'm not laying on top of you!
OWEN: I'm not saying it's a brilliant idea, but it's the only one we've got!
(Back out in the hub, Lisa climbs up the stairs to the second floor.)
(Jack and Ianto are both unconscious on the floor.)
(The morgue cabinet door closes.)
(Lisa reaches the second floor and heads closer toward COLD STORAGE.)
(Jack regains consciousness and groans. He pants heavily as he gets to his knees.)
(Lisa stops at the top of COLD STORAGE.)
(Gwen is on top of Owen in the cabinet. They wait.)
(Lisa heads into COLD STORAGE.)
(In the morgue cabinet, Gwen and Owen wait. The can hear Lisa's heavy footsteps
approaching steadily.)
(Lisa stops.)
(Gwen and Owen hear her stop.)
(Jack turns and looks at Ianto on the ground near him. Jack picks Ianto up out of the
water and cradles his body.)
(Owen and Gwen are still in the cabinet.)
(Lisa is just outside the door.)
(They wait.)
(Lisa continues forward and heads all the way into COLD STORAGE.)
(Jack glances behind him as he hears Lisa's heavy footsteps. He taps the side of
Ianto's face, trying to get him to wake up.)
(Inside the cabinet, Gwen looks at Owen.)
GWEN: (whispers) What do we do?
(Just outside the door, Lisa looks around the area.)
(In the cabinet, Owen grabs Gwen and kisses her. At first, Gwen is surprised, then she
kisses him back.)
(Outside in the hub, Jack leans forward and kisses Ianto.)
(Lisa stands out in COLD STORAGE looking around.)
(Inside the cabinet, Owen and Gwen are kissing passionately.)
(Out in the hub, Jack continues to kiss Ianto.)
(Lisa continues to look around.)
(Lisa walks over to one of the morgue cabinets. She opens the door and finds it empty.)
(Gwen and Owen stop kissing.)
(Ianto wakes up. Jack shushes him.)
JACK: Ssh!
(Lisa closes the cabinet door. The sound of the door slamming shut startles Gwen.)
(Suddenly, Gwen's phone rings.)
(Lisa turns and looks at the next morgue cabinet door.)
(Gwen shimmies. Owen and Gwen are desperate to turn her phone off.)
GWEN: Where is it? Where is it?
GWEN: Quick, please!
(Owen feels around for Gwen's phone. He finds it in her back pants pocket. He takes
it out and gives it to Gwen. Gwen grabs it, and is so scared that she drops the phone.)
(The jig is up! Owen opens the cabinet door and they slip out quickly.)
OWEN: (shouts) Turn it off! Turn it off!
EXT. CARDIFF WHARF – NIGHT
(Rhys is on the phone leaving a message.)
RHYS: All right, lover, it's the man of your dreams! I've had a couple of beers
with Daf and we're off for a curry, so can you video Wife Swap?
(Lisa turns and focuses on Gwen. She starts toward Gwen. Owen fells around for a weapon on
the autopsy instrument tray. He grabs a long screwdriver.)
OWEN: Don't you touch her!
(Owen stabs Lisa in the stomach. Lisa screams.)
(Out in the hub, Jack and Ianto turn at the sound of Lisa screaming. Ianto gets up and
runs out.)
(Lisa collapses against the wall, her eyes close. Owen and Gwen stare at Lisa.)
GWEN: What the hell was that?
OWEN: What?
GWEN: Snogging me!
OWEN: Last kiss for the condemned man! Little embarrassing given we haven't been
killed. What?! It's not like I fancy you or anything.
GWEN: I was on top of you. I could feel your hard-on.
OWEN: Yeah, well, you didn't exactly struggle, did you?
(Ianto runs into the room and kneels before Lisa.)
OWEN: It was kill or be killed.
GWEN: Owen's right. There was no choice.
(Ianto's quiet. He looks at Lisa and her eyes open. Ianto steps away from her as she
gets up.)
GWEN: Ianto, move! Get out!
(Gwen pushes Ianto toward the stairs. She follows him out.)
GWEN: GET OUT I SAID! MOVE! MOVE!
(Lisa follows them.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(They run out of the hub. Owen sees that Jack is still alive.)
OWEN: You should be dead.
JACK: I'm the stubborn type.
(Jack grabs a blowtorch and lights it. He grabs a squeeze bottle off the desktop. Lisa
advances toward them.)
JACK: Get behind me!
INT. TORCHWOOD -- COVER SHOP -- NIGHT
(Toshiko is under the counter messing with the wiring.)
TOSHIKO: 3-5-7, 3-5-7, come on!
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(Jack holds the blowtorch in one hand and a squeeze bottle in the other.)
JACK: That's right. Stay back. This will at least give you heartburn.
LISA: The power will run out. I can wait.
IANTO: Jack, help her. Give her a chance to surrender...
(Ianto steps forward; Owen holds him back. Gwen helps.)
OWEN: Have you not seen what she's done?
IANTO: Let her stay in the cells! We have to reverse the process!
JACK: I've told you! We're past that! Hold him back!
GWEN: What are you gonna do?
JACK: Don't ask questions, just get him on there and hold him!
(Gwen and Owen push Ianto back to the concrete slab. They keep a firm hold on him. Jack
squeezes the contents of the bottle onto Lisa.)
GWEN: What is that stuff?
JACK: Kind of a barbecue sauce. It helps it identify its food.
GWEN: Help what identify its food?!
(Jack turns the blowtorch off and puts it down. He joins the others. He glances at Ianto.)
JACK: I'm sorry.
(Jack presses some buttons on his wristband. The Pterodactyl screeches above them. They
look up.)
JACK: Come on Tosh, hurry up.
IANTO: You'll kill her!
(The pterodactyl flies out of the pipe opening near the ceiling. It swoops down in front
of Lisa and attacks her.)
(Ianto struggles to free himself from Owen and Gwen's hold on him. He shouts at
Jack.)
IANTO: Let me go! Let me help her!
INT. TORCHWOOD -- COVER SHOP -- NIGHT
(Toshiko continues her work on the wiring. She looks down at the light – one light is
already on. The second light goes on.)
TOSHIKO: Yes!
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
JACK: Hold him still!
(Jack and the others are on the concrete stone as it starts to rise.)
IANTO: NO-O-O-O!!!
INT. TORCHWOOD -- COVER SHOP -- NIGHT
(Toshiko checks that the power cells are still on. She opens the outside door.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(Down in the hub, the pterodactyl attacks Lisa. Lisa punches the pterodactyl. The two
fight as the others watch from the rising concrete platform.)
IANTO: Call it off her! You can do that!
(The pterodactyl attacks Lisa as they watch. Lisa screams. The pterodactyl doesn't
let up. It continues to attack her.)
IANTO: Have some fucking mercy!
(The pterodactyl continues its attack. Lisa screams.)
IANTO: NO-O-O!
(Jack looks up at the ceiling and opens the trap door above.)
(Down below, the pterodactyl continues attacking Lisa.)
EXT. MILLENNIUM CENTRE – WATER TOWER -- CONTINUOUS
(The platform rises to the top. Jack steps off the platform. Gwen and Owen push Ianto off
the platform, releasing their hold on him.)
(Toshiko runs out across the centre to meet up with them at the base of the water tower.)
TOSHIKO: It worked! (She looks around.) What happened to ... ?
(Jack shakes his head and brushes the question aside.)
JACK: (panting) No.
(Ianto turns and glares at Jack. He steps toward him and punches him in the face.)
IANTO: You could have saved her!
(Ianto punches Jack in the face.)
JACK: Argh!
(Gwen pushes Ianto back. Owen stays with Jack.)
IANTO: You're worse than anything locked up down there! One day, I'll have the
chance to save you ... and I'll watch you suffer and die.
JACK: It was the only thing that would stop her!
(Toshiko runs up to Jack.)
TOSHIKO: Listen, when I was at reception, I managed to trip the lockdown timer. The
power should be coming back on any second. We can get back in.
(Ianto runs back to Torchwood.)
JACK: Ianto!
(Jack and everyone runs after him.)
EXT. TORCHWOOD – COVER SHOP -- NIGHT
(The pizza delivery girl from JUBILEE PIZZA rings the door buzzer.)
ANNIE (PIZZA GIRL): Pizza!
MONITOR POV: The door buzzer sounds and unlatches.
(The pizza girl opens the door and enters the shop.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – COVER SHOP -- CONTINUOUS
MONITOR POV: Annie looks around the shop.
ANNIE (PIZZA GIRL): Ianto?
(The secret door to Torchwood opens.)
(Annie steps in with the pizza.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(The hub door rolls open. Annie steps inside and sees the destruction.)
ANNIE (PIZZA GIRL): Bloody hell!
(She looks around.)
ANNIE (PIZZA GIRL): Ianto? D'you want these or not?
(The pterodactyl screeches. Annie looks up. Camera swings around Annie. There on the
opposite end of the room and very much alive is Lisa. She's red with blood from her
bout with the pterodactyl – but she's still very much alive.)
EXT. WHARF -- NIGHT
(Ianto runs back to Torchwood. Jack and the others are behind him.)
JACK: Ianto! Stop!
GWEN: She can't have survived that attack.
(Gwen and Owen are in the lead. Toshiko and Jack follow.)
TOSHIKO: I used my initiative! I'm sorry!
JACK: When I want you to think for yourself, I'll tell you.
TOSHIKO: Maybe if you'd told me your plan, I wouldn't have done it!
(Ianto doesn't stop. He reaches the shop and runs inside. A moment later, the others
reach the shop.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – COVER SHOP -- CONTINUOUS
(Ianto runs behind the desk and takes out a gun. He stops in front of the secret doorway
and points the gun at the others. Gwen stops.)
GWEN: Ianto, don't be stupid!
IANTO: I've nothing left to lose.
JACK: There's always something left to lose.
(Ianto points the gun at Jack.)
IANTO: I'm going back in to save her. Anybody tries to stop me, I'll shoot them.
GWEN: Ianto, put the gun down ...
(Jack steps forward, grabs Ianto's wrist with one hand and twists his arm back and
down. Ianto drops his gun. The other hand grabs Ianto's shoulder pushing him against
the wall.)
(Jack takes his gun out and points the muzzle at Ianto's cheek.)
JACK: You make a threat like that, you better be prepared to follow it through.
See, you disobey me now ... I really will shoot you.
IANTO: Get off me!
(Owen and the others don't move.)
JACK: You wanna go back in there? You go in to finish the job. If she's still
alive, you execute her.
(Jack turns Ianto to look at him.)
IANTO: (shakes his head) No way.
JACK: You brought this down on us. You hid her. You hid yourself from us. Now it's
time for you to stand as part of the team.
(Gwen reaches out and touches Jack's shoulder.)
GWEN: Jack ...
JACK: The girl you loved has gone. Your loyalty is to us now.
IANTO: You can't order me to do that.
JACK: (growls) You execute her or I'll execute you both!
IANTO: I won't do it. You can't make me. You like to think you're a hero. But
you're the biggest monster of all.
JACK: I'm giving you ten minutes. Then we're coming in.
(Ianto looks at the others. They don't move.)
JACK: Pick it up.
(Ianto reaches down and picks up his gun. He looks at them, then turns and disappears into
the corridor.)
TOSHIKO: How can you ask him ... ?
JACK: I don't need your opinion!
(Everyone quiets down.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- CONTINUOUS
(The door opens and Ianto runs into the hub. He stops and looks around. There's blood
spatter in the room, but no sign of Lisa. He looks down and sees the discarded JUBILEE
PIZZA boxes on the ground.)
(The pterodactyl screeches above.)
(The monitors show:
ALERT
POWER LOSS 19%.)
(Ianto runs through the hub.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – CELLS -- CONTINUOUS
(The door to the containments units open. Ianto runs in, through the room and toward the
back door. He opens the door and enters.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – BASEMENT / STOREROOM -- CONTINUOUS
(The lights are off in the basement corridor. Ianto runs in and hurries to the storeroom
at the end.)
(The lights power on and Ianto reaches the storeroom.)
(He bursts into the room.)
IANTO: Lisa!
(He stops when he sees Lisa's body, dead on the floor, lying in a pool of blood.)
(He kneels down to check on her. Her metal frame is covered with blood. Her eyes are open
and she's unmoving. Ianto starts to cry.)
(He tries to lift her head and the metal bit comes off in his bloodied hands.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): (o.s.) Ianto ...
(Ianto grabs his gun and points it at the woman standing on the other side of the room.
It's the pizza girl. Her shirt is splotched with blood and there's a cut running
across her forehead from the incision.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): Ianto, it's me. It's Lisa.
(Ianto steps around the table. Annie walks over to him.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): I'm human again. You fought so hard for me, I had to hold on for
you, so I took this body and transplanted the brain.
(He glances down at Lisa's body on the floor.)
IANTO: You're not Lisa.
LISA (IN ANNIE): You always said you didn't love me for what I looked like. Last
time you said that, it was a Saturday. We were hungover. You made cheese toasties, and
moaned I hadn't de-scaled my kettle. (Ianto cries.) That night, we camped on a beach in
Brittany. It got so freezing we wore our coats and shared one sleeping bag. When we woke
up the next morning, a dog was pissing on our tent.
(Ianto cries.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): Hold me, Ianto. I need you to hold me. I need you to tell me it's
all right.
(He cries, steps forward and holds her.)
(After a moment, he releases her, steps back, cocks the gun and points it in her face.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): What are you doing? Ianto, it's me! You wouldn't shoot me. I did
this for you!
IANTO: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
(Ianto cries. He can't. He lowers the gun and cries.)
IANTO: Lisa!
(Ianto turns away from her.)
LISA (IN ANNIE): We can be upgraded ... together.
(A gun fires hitting Lisa in the stomach. Ianto turns around. There in the doorway, Owen,
Gwen, Jack and Toshiko aim their guns at Lisa. They fire ... and continue firing.)
(Lisa falls backward onto the table. She turns and looks at Ianto. They lower their
weapons.)
(Ianto turns and looks at the team. Everyone except Gwen is looking back at him.)
(Ianto turns and falls to his knees next to Lisa's cybernetic body and the second
body on the table.)
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. CARDIFF CITY LIGHTS (STOCK) -- NIGHT
(It's night in Cardiff.)
INT. TORCHWOOD – HUB -- NIGHT
(The alarm blares and lights flash as the front door opens. Ianto walks in slowly. He
looks up.)
(Jack and Gwen are in the conference room looking down through the windows on the hub. He
sees them. Jack nods to Ianto. Ianto barely nods back.)
(Gwen glances at Jack.)
(Ianto turns and climbs up the stairs to the workstation.)
(Gwen and Jack watch him.)
GWEN: You'd never have shot him. Not really.
JACK: Wouldn't I?
GWEN: Would you have shot me if I'd gone to stand by him?
JACK: But you didn't.
GWEN: If I had, though.
JACK: But you didn't.
(As they watch, Ianto picks up a trash bag.)
GWEN: Will he stay?
(Jack shrugs.)
GWEN: (sighs) All that deception. Because he couldn't bear to live without her. So
have you ever loved anyone that much?
(Jack doesn't answer her.)
GWEN: When she had hold of you, I thought, just for a moment, I thought maybe you
could die after all.
JACK: Wanna know a secret? (Gwen nods.) So did I. And just for a second there, I
felt so ... alive.
(CAMERA PULLS BACK on Jack and Gwen still standing in the conference room overlooking the
hub.)
(Over on the other side, Ianto quietly cleans up after the others.)
FADE TO BLACK.
